Of the two I prefer MATE, but I'm using GNOME lately and quite like it, nice workflow. I do miss GNOME 2 sometimes though, hence MATE.

Switched from KDE to MATE recently (because KDE5 is fucking buggy alpha software, who the fuck deemed that worth shipping?), and while it is very oldschool and ugly, so far, it also seems to just werk, which is a bonus, but compared to KDE, its still kinda very rough around the edges.
And LXDE? Isnt that deprecated for LXQT?
The latter also works okay-ish, but you gotta do much more shit by hand, to get it to a usable state, compared to mate.
Still, I am just waiting for either rpmfusion finally getting their act together, so that I can get on EPEL7 for glorious KDE4, or for KDE5 to finally leave alpha stage.

Because Xfce is dead and slowly rotting? Seriously, every time I go back and try it I get a bug I didn't have before. It used to be king, but now it's not.
