Why are large laptops so rare?
Why is it so hard to find a large laptop that isn't $5000 XXXXXXTREME GAMING 50lb bricks?

Closest thing I've found is HDX9000 which is like $5000 and has a massive AC adapter. Same with the Sager NP5960.
Only other option seems to be stepping down to 18.4" which is still $5000 XTREME GAMING brick territory.
Or stepping even further down to 17.3" where weight finally falls into reasonable tier by ditching the GPUs and can be had for as little as $300, which considering my needs it almost doesn't matter what the specs are.
Can /g/ recommend me an anime that doesn't sux?

Have you looked at the Dell Precision PC's op? I don't know what specific size you're looking for but they're
-Huge, hot and heavy
-Usually very good specs (I see models on ebay with 24GB memory often)
-Dockable
-Classy design, not gamer looking crap
Any other workstation laptop should do as well (Thinkpad W's)

I had your exact same problem OP, I wanted a 17.3' or possibly more pc to move around the house because fuck small screens but there was none reasonably priced and specced.
All they do is either have an unacceptable resolution like 1366x768, have unacceptable specs like dual core atoms (laptops big as a door and you couldnt fit more than that? Is it all empty inside?) unacceptable battery (giant laptop with 44wh battery? You could easily fit 100wh in something that big, what is wrong with you, or balls to the wall stupid price and gayming specs
There are a few 20' laptops from the 2007-2008 era though they run like shit if you're interested

The real question is why fuckhueg laptops are so common. I thought my Thinkpad x201t was small when I first got it, but now I can't imagine using anything bigger for a laptop. I only wish I had a higher resolution screen though.

Really, small desktops are really quite portable and powerful nowdays, and are quite cost effective.

Most people have no problem using a touchpad in 2016, besides, even if it is really a problem for your use case, mobile workstations with pointing sticks exist, and even if that isn't good enough, having to carry a mouse and a pair of headphones is hardly equivalent to carting around a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and accompanying cables (and finding a place to set it all up)

It's not about not being obese. Anybody who does real work will do it on a desktop. 13 inches is the ideal balance between portability and power, which is what you should look for in a laptop. Nobody who carries around 17" laptops is smart, or does actual work.

Any fucking ASUS G750 is now piss cheap, "big" and powerful. Even if you throw a few more thousands in your budget, you won't get a much more powerful laptop than these.
G751 is the current one, but not much changed, and since the G750 is now going "out", it's cheap. You can buy the G750 with GTX980M fitted.

None of them works properly.
I had a powerful PC and a shit ThinkPad (in terms of 3D performance) and I wanted to play games with gf together. Well, I spent fucking weeks, tried every OS, every virtualization, everything, even Windows 2012R2+RemoteFX... it's shite.
It's just not possible.
I am really sad GAIKAI got bought up and there was that other service. GAIKAI had a super awesome latency, it was unreal. I felt no lag whatsoever.
But then Sony decided to fuck everything up. Fuck Sony.
