Xfce is fine. It's simple, lightweight, customizable, and feature-complete. And the project has the discipline to recognize that and not refactor everything or pile on features just to be doing something.

Xfce would be fine but thunar looks ugly. The whiskermenu is from 2007. Xfwm4 is from 1990 with no decent desktop effects.

However it makes an ideal DE for portable devices
