What for? Latex can do lots of things.
Also latex is pretty great if you use the right frontend.
latex has a harsh learning curve but calling it trash makes it seem like you just haven't gotten through it.
as for alternatives, no, there aren't any good ones for the common use cases of latex. your best bet is to find a user interface (like sharelatex or overleaf or sublime text with the right plugins) to make the learning curve less awful.
i guess it's possible you're too stupid for latex, but keep in mind that millions use latex despite it being hard at first, so we're not going to give half a shit about how much of an imposition it is that you have to learn something unfamiliar.
If you just started, keep going. LaTeX is super easy to learn, like, if you can't grasp LaTeX, I don't think you should be on /g/. LaTeX has basically replaced word or writer for me, it's that easy.

I know that you are here for feces posting, but still there isn't something comparable to LaTeX around. But use MikTex (downloads packages itself) and TexStudio to minimize your interaction with actual LaTeX stuff. The remainder is just what you write and if you can't handle writing math expressions in text then you should go back to Word.

You can even use it to replace powerpoint too which is quite crazy. Though I've moved onto reveal.js instead.
OP, seriously though, try LyX. It's like training wheels that makes it's so much easier.
