Which one should I get for the t460p ?
I do some software development and some VM's for networking stuff.
Do your own research you retard. The answer is a Google search away.

You mean i7-HQ? Don't get the t460p at all, it just overheats as fuck. Get a t460 or t460s..

but the t460 and the 460s have just dual cores. No quad cores. Is it enough ?

I did a research. But benchmarks are not the real deal.

Well it depends on what you're doing.. and please don't respond with "coding".. you'll have to get more specific

Don't worry :). I do some Python and Android (Android Studio) development. But the main "heavy" stuff that I'll actually do is to run some Network VM-Software like GNS3. I do run always 2-3 (sometimes 4 VMs) when I do my networking stuff. Each vm gets about 500 Mhz - 1Ghz. I don't game but i use a 3440x1440 display over the DP Port @ 60HZ.
Taking a guess here
But I suggest you check the following:
Google which one handles parallel computing better if that is something you need to a great extent, which it seems to me that you do
Google which one draws more power if you need the battery ALOT and think it may make a sign difference
Google which one is better for compiling (lol is that a thing to check for?) and for interpreting depending on which languages you'll be using

i5 6300 HQ is quadcore, unlike u/ulv which is dual core.

Get a desktop then? Or get a p50 or p70..

I have a desktop but use it just for gaming. I had mac Macbook pro with 16GB ram and i7HQ and it handelt all the stuff that i did easily. The p50 is a attractive device but has dual graphics. Don't know how linux is going to handle it...
>i5-6300HQ
4 real cores, no HT, 45W. More performance but will heat more and drain battery faster, better iGPU
>i7-6600U
2 cores, HT, 15W. Less perf, longer battery life & cooler
