Just use MPV OP. It jest twerks right out of the box and is pretty customizable (natively). It's also lightweight as fuck. MPC is pretty customizable too, but I don't like to mess around with plugins and extra codecs and stuff.

I prefer mpv. Or MPC(-HC). But if you use VLC you still get to watch the same shit, so maybe it's not even worth swithing for you.
