Why not just use Linux? It can do everything Windows can, only better.

>Why not just use Linux?
No software that I need requires it and I don't see the need to add several steps to everything I could possibly use a computer for just to be able to brag that I use loonix.

Why don't YOU just use BSD?
It does everything Linux can without the harmful shit like systemd.

Linux users are no better than Windows /v/eddit kids

Wat
>>
>>55054896
Systemd isn't an official part of Linux. There still are distributions like Slackware and Gentoo that don't come with systemd. Plus you can easily remove.
>>
>>55054910
Yeah it is organised.

The /bin folder keeps all the binaries
/media keeps all the mount points
/usr/ is where your configs kept

Furthermore you can literally mount any directory into any partition you feel like.

Like you can mount /tmp and swap on your SSD, /boot on your SDHC card etc.

>>55054945
I know but that's not the problem. I'm talking about having different places that different things are installed, like I install small and important software on my SSD and the rest on my HDD.
In Windows it's as simple as running the installer and selecting the install location. To do it on Linux outside of the default directory you have to fuck around with shared libraries and shit.

No. You guys are just really vocal about it. The majority of /g/ isn't weeb. That's why desktop threads exist: they're containment. Sometimes you spill out though.
>>
>>55054989
>unbreedable permavirgin
Strange way of spelling "Linux user"
>>
>>55054972
Or you could just check out some simple configs and change them and add your ssd to fstab or manually mount and add the mountpoint to your path.

What did you do to it? I feel like there's no way to make Linux do that, given that I've been using loonix for years and never have had anything like that. Have you considered the possibility that it happened because you're retarded? Maybe you're better off in a comfy Windows setup.
>>
>>shitty drivers
>Works better than Windows drivers in most case
In my experience only printer drivers actually work better. It's not the fault of Linux, but its drivers tend to be less supported.

>>55054821
you are subtracting steps with linux since it requires less maintenance, and things like tiling wm and workspaces allow for much faster screen space management

Except for running every single program I use at work, with exception of LibreOffice, and nearly all of my video games.

For hell sake, Im getting tired of this "WHY YOU DONT USE LINUX YET". Basically suggesting a guy, who needs a hammer, to use screwdriver instead, because "you can add this part and this part to make it look and sometimes barely work like hammer!". Cool, but I still need a hammer and not screwdriver.

I gave linux a try on my desktop. It wasn't my first experience with it, I had a linux class in CS and I fiddled with it on my mom's laptop.

The installing experience is 100x better than windows. The distro I got came with great software right off the bat. I like having the proper data measurement acronyms.

However, things felt buggy and I had to spend a lot of time googling to solve problems, which I dislike very much. For instance, I had a problem with tearing. Installing drivers were a pain. The process is much more complicated than on windows. I missed just being able to run a .exe to install software. Having to bring up the console to install it is a pain, and I don't like the app-store-style software either. Also the GNOME 2 GUI is absolutely terrible, the Xs aren't even in the corner of your screen when your windows are maximized. Also,
nogaems
.

From this experience I deduct you're better off using linux without a GUI. No GUI means no graphics card, so you probably want to stick to a laptop while you're at it.

I might use it again if I need to repair a computer fast or don't feel like going through the whole process of reinstalling windows and getting the right software. I'll stick with laptops though.
>>
- Still no drivers for a bunch of hardware I use, including wifi on a recent laptop.
- Touch support is deplorable.
- Battery life on laptop is half that of windows.

Pretty much all the software I use is available on Linux (with the exception of MS Office), so I keep hoping that Linux will improve, but every release seems to add a whole bunch of nothing.
