Summit Ridge APUs with HBM memory will probably be able to play most games on 1080p with acceptable framerates. Adding a super cheap GPU to the APU will definitely let you play games in 1080p.

I want Polaris to succeed, but let's not kid ourselves. It will probably be better than the 970/390, but that's about it. Having a card that can OC and deprecate the entire GPU lineup for $200 would be incredible, but they would have definitely mentioned that instead of going with more AotS bullshit. tl;dr unfucks AMD's cpu overhead issues with DX11 and below. Its why you see in many DX12 titles AMD card pull ahead - even without async compute once some of the cpu side woes AMD suffer from vanish their gpus can run as intended.
Nvidia fixed this essentially with their wonder driver years ago (though their solution goes back further than that in some form or another). To wit: Nvidia's driver is essentially multi-threaded under DX11, AMD's is not.
