(Yes it is encrypted for businesses. But NOT for regular customers.)

what's the big issue here.
If you're trusting a third-party service provider to encrypt for you, you're settling for weak encryption.

Your HDD, network share, floppy disks, etc shouldn't be encrypting for you. You should be encrypting your own files regardless of where you put them. Anything less is placebo

So that makes it Ok for Microsoft to be the only major company that does not encrypt the files at rest on their servers and in transit?

Cuse Microsoft

I don't know.
But in a related issue, does anyone here know anything about Veracrypt?
I selected the 1-Wipe mode thinking it would be a security feature for WHEN you want to wipe your drive, and even though it is only the one wipe mode it says it will take another 33 hours. Which is...okay by me. But I just want to make sure it isn't actually wiping my fucking external drive. It didn't give any warning saying that. My driving isn't just being wiped right now is it? Holy fuck.

Encrypt your files before you upload to anyone's server Anon.

Whether or not a file hosting service encrypts is irrelevant.

This.

Also, try SpiderOak. It's client-side encrypted, so there's at least that.

I have never used VeraCrypt but if you are going to encrypt your drive usually there is an option to securely wipe it first as a security feature (this happens before encryption).

It should be optional, however.

Pic unrelated.

... and use VPN to get it there.

Personally, I don't care if anyone knows that I am uploading to a cloud service from my desktop.

I just don't want my bank statements, tax records, photos, etc to be viewable by other people.

Nothing against VPNs. I just wouldn't need them for uploading from my desktop at home.

>falling for the "they will protect me" meme
if you cared about security you'd encrypt beforehand with a key they can't use nor know about

It's really simple - you get what you pay for.
