Or is OpenBSD's kernel simple and clean and easy to understand for a nub as well?

I hear Minix 2 is particularly small, therefore easier to read through. You might wanna try xv6 or Lion's.

I heard OpenBSD's kernel was only 80K lines of code. That seems insanely small for a kernel.
