I went around to various yard sales today and I think I just struck a bargain!
I bought a Dell PowerEdge T310 server computer. For $5.
It turns on and everything, and the hardware inside looks practically pristine. It even came with 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz ECC RAM, a Xeon CPU, and a PCIe 8x RAID controller. I just need to throw in a SATA drive and a cheap PCIe video card and this thing is golden.
What should I do with it? Keep for something? Sell it for profit?
Home file server?
If you don't have any purpose for it, sell it now before it becomes obsolete.
Make a shill free /g/
poo in it and sell it on ebay

How much power do these desktops use? I already have a couple USB hard drives connected to my router for backups and general NAS.
What OS should I throw on it? As well as a cheap video card?

Is it missing the power supply?

They're not desktops. Shuck the hard drives if they're 3.5" and put them in there. Run ESXi or Proxmox or whatever on it. Forget a video card, look for a DRAC card.

It's there, it's just hidden in the enclosure thing.

How much is a fair price, as-is?

Maybe 60 dollars depending on specs. 4x2GB DIMMs are worthless, it has no drives, and it could have the most basic Xeon ever.

4 bucks
