My laptop would have cost 700 bucks. 1366x768 TN display, 8 GB DDR3-1600, 1TB Caviar blue, A10-5757m. I upgraded the display to a 1920x1080 IPS so there's another hundred.
My desktop would have cost me 900 bucks total and it's an AMD 8320e, 8GB DDR3-2100, 120GB main, 500GB steam, 120GB linux drive, R9-270 2gb, Acer 21 inch ips 1080 monitor, Logitech stereo speakers with woofer, based lenovo keyboard and mouse, H100-gtx water cooler.
My laptop cannot compete with my desktop in most cases but they both do basic stuff very well like shitposting, media, torrenting, browsing, basically anything in a browser works very very very well. I can do some older gaming on my laptop but Fallout 4 or Doom or other such games I am relegated to my desktop.
I should say, I got the laptop for free and the desktop was payment for building a friend a new computer/I did some upgrades so I really spent 100 on the gpu, 170 on the cpu, and 170 on the water cooler.
