Is the 80 buck price difference on these worth it? I am looking for a decently priced 27 inch, 1440p, 144hz, low response time monitor.
I do have a GTX 980 but I don't plan on dropping 700 bucks for a g-sync equivalent monitor so I am fine w/o it.

It's a TN v.s. an IPS panel. The IPS panel is going to look much better and you wont notice the difference between 1 and 4ms.
Go with MG279Q. Google the difference between TN and IPS if you feel like it. But make sure your GPU has display port because this monitor has no DVI.

I am leaning towards the IPS panel as I already have 2 other IPS monitors (LG 22inchers) and I think the LCD would stand out in the middle of those 2.

quite decent monitor, low response time for a IPS, and it has freesync in case you ever want to buy AMD in the future and since gsync doesn't matter to you it seems like a good option.
