Hey /g/. I'm here to ask about the airflow of my case. I have a 390 which hits 94 degrees on any graphicslly demanding games. Ambient temps are about 24 degrees celsius. Is my card just shit or is my airflow fucked?

Pic related.

>>
>>55018212
Airflow is fucked.
>>
>>55018266
How?
>>
>>55018212
Never ever ever make a rad an intake. Linus did it with a fury x and it overheated the system to bsod. What do you think it's happening...

Make the rad a top exhaust and your Temps will drop 20c I fucking promise
>>
>>55018309
This so much
>>
>>55018309
How do I mount it on the top though? There isn't enough clearance to put it on the top slot. And the rear slot is 120mm which is too small
>>
>>55018212
Your airflow is fucked. I have that same card and it doesn't go over 80ÂșC under pressure. Do you have a custom profile, are the fans working properly and not fucked?
>>
Yeah I have the fans configured and stuff. They seem to work fine
>>
>>55018351
Different case then. I'd rather spend $50 to have clearance than heat problems.

Supermicro s5 is like $60 at microcenter. Other cases that aren't huge have clearance too. I had the same issue with my fury x rad an the air 240.
>>
>>55018212
What the fuck were you thinking?
>Intake through a fucking PSU shroud
>crippled intake with three exhaust
Change the front to intake immediately. Move the rad to the back.
>>
>>55018393
Should I nigger rig it and put the fan outside of the case?
>>
>>55018399
Oh shit, I'm retarded.

Just move the rad to the back, get a better case if you want to.
>>
>>55018408
You can't because then you're just pulling. You'd be much better off with a push on the rad than only pull. Text me and we can talk.
>513
>300
>9318 and I'll help you
>>
Would reversing the airflow help at all?
>>
>>55018309
This, why the fuck would you blow hot air back into the case?
>>
>>55018478
Done it many times to help people. I've been here since 2004. People don't do shit
>>
>>55018212
Put another exhaust fan on the top and add 2 intake fans on the side panel if possible also, move the fan in the back of the case to place the radiator there (if it's a 120mm x 120mm one)
replace your GPU's thermal paste and if that doesn't help much, underclock it.
>>
Guys would switching rear and top slots to intake and switching front to exhaust work? Or would that just suffocate my card
>>
>>55018444
>You'd be much better off with a push on the rad than only pull.
Yeah, except that temps would be exactly the goddamn same, as has been proven time and time again.
The whole push vs pull debate is fucking retarded. It doesn't make a nick of a difference to your temps. What it DOES make a difference to, however, is how dust builds up, and a pull configuration has a huge advantage when it comes to ease of cleaning here.
>>
>>55018595
Bump please answer
>>
>>55018309
I have three (3) 120mm intake fans on the front of my case, 280mm radiator intake at the top of my case, and a 140mm exhaust fan at the back. My temps are fine.
>>
>>55018212
I have a gigabyte 390

>max C is 74 :^)
>>
>>55018212
the point of an intake is to take COOL air from outside into the case not push the HOT air from your cpu into the case. holy shit
>>
>>55018790
I've looked up S340 configurations and they all had rads as intakes. Just dig a little and you'll see my issue here.
>>
Guys please answer this:

Would is work to use rear/top for intake and the front as exhaust? That seems to be the only way to use the rad as exhaust without modding my case
>>
>>55018818
swap the rear fan and rad. see what that does.
>>
>>55018875
get a new case that actually has some room.
>>
>>55018882
I can't because there's not enough clearance for the rad and fan
>>
>>55018790
A radiator isn't like a normal heatsink. It doesn't exhaust "hot air".
>>
>>55018898
Any recommendations for one for $60 or so?
>>
>>55018920
yes it does. dont be stupid
>>
>>55018920
What? How else would you do it then?
>>
>>55018930
magic pixie dust.
>>
>>55018898
But say I didn't want to jew out the money for a new case. Would that reverse airflow idea work?
>>
>>55018963
wouldnt hurt to try. i still think a larger case will serve you well
>>
>>55018309
Most companies rec making the Rad an intake.
I run an mITX doing so with a 960, the highest temp i get is 70C for the GPU. Everything else is way lower.
>>
>>55018212
The fuck games are you playing that makes it hit 94? I have a 390 and the hottest I've ever seen it was 74 on ARK on epic settings. Set up a fan curve with MSI afterburner you silly twat
>>
>>55018984
well the cpu gets better cooling that way, but you're blowing hot air into your case.
>>
>>55018995
I do have a fan curve. Mostly stuff like Witcher 3 and GTA 5. Trust me, it confuses me just as much as it confuses you.
>>
>>55019117
I get like 68-72 on those games. What the actual fuck. Let's see your fan curve.
>>
i have msi 390x that was hitting 94°C @ 100% fan speed while running demanding games so i decided to change factory applied thermal paste on gpu with aftermarket one and now highest i have seen is 83°C @ 70% fan speed.
Did that after i came to conclusion that case airflow was not causing the issue.
>>
Airflow doesn't matter nearly as much as you think it does.

You need to have it hit max fan speed BEFORE your card is hot... Move the 100% fuck to around 70c.

>>
>>55019278
Testing as we speak.
>>
Jeez the 390 is shit. I have my Zotac GTX 970 in a small ass Optiplex case with one exhaust fan and it never goes above 74° C while benchmarking. Idle is around 30-34° C
>>
>>55019313
C'mon anon, I know vidya is fun but we're working on a mystery here
>>
>>55018689
I've been trying to follow what you're saying, but a simple rule is in at the front, out at the back. Don't mess with the sides if you can. I'd say top fans go out, tentatively. Changes based on case and preference.
>>
>>55019534
Alright. So it's sitting around 87 degrees in comparison to 94 so I guess that's a bonus. But it still seems high
>>
>>55018212
Move the CLC radiator to the top or the back of the case as an exhaust, move whichever fan you take off to the front.
>>
>>55019577
That is indeed high. Where is your pc situated? Mine is off the floor, not pushed up against anything (all 6 faces have at least an inch of breathing room)

>>
>>55019658
Weird. All I can say is to tweak the fan curve. Anything after 90ish is, from what I've heard, the temps that'll lower the lifespan of your hardware, so if you can stay under it, i wouldn't stress too much about it.

Your car doesn't happen to have a fan controller that you could be turning on to high while you're gaming, right?

>>55019710
I have my fan in my room spinning max 24/7

try replacing thermal paste.
>>
>>55020157
Yeah I'm thinking about that. Might even email MSI and get an official opinion from them. Thanks for all the help /g/ents
>>
Temps are 90% coolers on offending components, 10% intake/exhaust deliberations.

I just run everything exhaust and have no problems on the last 4 cases. Maybe your GPU needs to be reseated, maybe something is running it at full load.

Show us a speccy/HWMonitor during or after a game.

ITT: Retards

The 390 is a hot card. Set a custom fan curve with msi afterburner. Does it reach that temperature with the cards fan speed at 100%? Literally all 290/390 sit around 65+ with 100% fan speed.
>>
>>55019176
This. Factory thermal paste is shitty. Clean the bastard too.
>>
>>55020594
390 may be a hot card, but that just means most of their 3rd party cooling solutions are garbage.
>>
You need an active exhaust point under your gpu in the back if the gpu cooler doesn't exhaust. The air is circulating around the gpu causing the air to build up heat. The passive vents of the psi slot covers helps a little but not a lot. Normally the psu could help but it's intake fan appears to draw air from the bottom of your case.

Also, radiators can be inlet fans. It's not a big deal cooling the upper portion of the mobo with slightly warmer air so long as it gets replaced which your setup is doing.

I think 2 exhausts for the mobo is overkill. Increased positive pressure may actually help your gpu situation by removing one of the exhausts. This forces to air to leave other places of the case, like the passive pci vents.
>>
Just remove the side panel from your case. You have a window there anyway.

The 390 is a horribly hot card, that's probably normal.

Awesome, except I don't want to fucking hear my card when I game
>>
>>55023243

Sorry, sunshine, but rendering 1,000,000 erect dicks per second takes significant computing power, and thus generates a lot of heat that has to be exhausted.

>not wearing headphones to actually be immersed

Alternatively
>not having a soundproofed case

That shit is pretty much standard these days. Up your game.
>>
>>55018212
Consider the fact that at saturation temp your radiator is dumping 50C+ air into the case.

I understand it's safer to keep it away from other stuff if the rad leaks, but that really doesn't matter, every part of a water unit has an equal chance of busting.
>>
>>55018212
Lol ur intake is getting heated by ur CPU u fuckin pleb
>>
>>55018212
How can someone be so fucking stupid?

Your "intake" is blowing hot air inside your case because of your radiator being there.
>>
>>55019036
My CPU and Mobo both run fairly cool.
Most things maybe hit 60 with the exception of my GPU.
You may be blowing some hot air in, but most of it is just blowing air in that gets sucked out.

>>
>>55020594
this guys right
>>55023243
even at 65% fan speed (+15% increment over the standard max fan speed) the card doesn't go over 80C. It only hits 94% because of the fuckery that is 55% max fan speed, not to mention the card begins to throttle down at that point. Do yourself a favor and stop being a fucking retard.
>>
>>55025385
94C not %

>>
>>55018555
Intake rads are better for CPU cooling.
>>
>>55018309
can you elabore with the link to the vid?
>>
>>55025509
Intake rads are better for cpu cooling, indeed. But worse for overall system temps.

Think about it, not to mention that the gains you have on the cpu die are being fucked up by the fact that there's hot air blowing on it, so you're screwing our delta. And the fact that everything is running unecessarily hotter, voltage regs, mem ram, hd drives..
