i just found an 8gb lexar usb drive. is there any point to these?

i just found an 8gb lexar usb drive. is there any point to these? i don't see myself using portable applications or transferring files this way. am i thinking in a shallow manner? what usefulness is there in storing data, applications, or bootable OSs on something like this?

should i just ignore it? or is there a potential of greatness in this little thing?
