Why do data caps exist?

>What happens if customers fully utilise the Internet allocation within the billing cycle?

>Customers can still enjoy Internet access at 64kpbs. To continue enjoying Internet at a better speed and limit, customers can purchase more data.

pray do tell, what are these "data caps" you speak of?

As a citizen of the first world, I have never heard of such things.

>enjoy Internet access at 64kpbs.
>enjoy Internet access at dialup speeds

My phone provider does this, but I have 5GB of data I will never use in a month so I guess it is fine. I haven't seen any sign of a data cap on my fibre Internet and I didn't see anything in the contract about data limits or throttling but I have a few days until the end of the first month until I will know for sure.

They exist as bait to get a "premium" data connection without a data cap.

For example boost offers 2GB of high speed data then 2G speeds for $30/month. However for $55/month they'll give you unlimited high speed data, no data caps whatsoever.

See companies are out to make a profit and if they all sold unlimited high speed data for $30/month they wouldn't make much money.

There are really bad carriers that don't offer unlimited high speed data at all and these should be avoided like the plauge. Those invluded project fi and verizon. They just want to milk customers for as much money as possible.

> Australian ISPs market shaped data plans as '''Unlimited'''plans, because 'technically you DO have unlimited access, it's just shaped to 128kbps once you go over X amount'.
Fuck this gay country tbqhwyfam. I'd burn down our forestries and send our unique wildlife extinct in a second if it meant I could get fast, truly unlimited internet.
