/g/ I need help. I want productivity computer that can handle modern Triple-A games. But the problem is I like to have portability so the Surface Book my second choice. The problem is that should I get the Surface book or build my own gaming PC?

PC build list:

Surface book: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/microsoft-surface-book-2-in-1-13-5-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-128gb-solid-state-drive-silver/4530800.p?id=1219758513667&skuId=4530800

Get a netbook and midrange tower.

This
480 is 200$ and can play every 1080p game fluidly.
You can get a chromebook to compliment that for portability. Everything you do there you can set it so that it syncs with your desktop.

I was mostly thinking getting a thunderbolt 3 laptop and get a eGPU with because it's either I get a laptop or a gaming PC

I feel the age of the personal desktop is ending for power-users. It's liberating to have enough computing power to do everything and the freedom to move it all on a whim. In terms of performance and price, high end laptops are scratching at the heels of towers for 3d modeling and content editing, and the size and design of high-performance laptops is becoming largely bearable. I recently scrapped my tower and sold my screen and accessories - I realized it was weighing me down. I'll let my employer invest in a desktop environment and I'll enjoy my portability.

I have the SP4 and a gaming PC and honestly, I would go for a gaming PC now or wait till the Surface Book 2. E-GPUs are starting to take off with USB C/Thunderbolt, so maybe the next SB will support that functionality.

My surface pro 1 ran eve online at decent settings until I threw it at a wall a few times which broke the fan. Everything but the fan is totally fine, by the way.

There are no thunderbolt 3 gpu docks on the market. You best wait then.

Laptops can not and never will be able to game effectively. I too bought the gaming laptop meme, but ended up putting a 960 Gtx into my work desktop to play there instead. My laptop now collects dust except for the occasional kodi+xrandr stream.

Get a real desktop and a cheap laptop or tablet

OP, wait a month or two and get a Transformer 3 Pro and an external GPU enclosure.

You cant buy it

It's already getting reviews, it should be out before school starts, and even if it doesn't OP can still get a Razer Blade Stealth and get the Core later

Or, OP can get this shit
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-13-r2/pd
with this proprietary shit
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-graphics-amplifier?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&sku=452-BBRG

Or the Asus Transformer 3 Pro and the Asus XG Station 2.

External Thunderbolt 3 GPUs are going to be a thing in 2016, there's no point buying a gimped Surface Book when much more powerful, cheaper hardware is a month or two away.

If you want to do anything serious with your computer you'll need a desktop. For a long time my laptop was technically superior to my desktop, but still my desktop was able to produce my projects faster and with less artifacting. Desktops for work, or games, laptop is for surfing.
