I was helping my dad go through his old computers today. For some reason, rather than being pleasantly nostalgic for machines I used when I was a kid, I was just depressed that they were still running and still had filenames I recognized.
How much emotion do you invest in the computers of your childhood, /g/? Do you hesitate to throw them out?

I didnt have any computers in my childhood. I wasnt allowed to use any computers except for things at school. I didnt have a computer until i bought one freshman year (I'm 19 btw.) This wasnt because of poorfagness, its was just that my dad is weird.

I threw them all out. 10/10 working great looking machines.
Instant regret when I look on ebay and everthing listed looks like it's been through hurricane sandy.

I could only use them under direct parental supervision, which was basically just dad reading car magazines in the kitchen while I played Close Combat.
I don't get it, I get nostalgic to the point of tears when I stumble on an old swing or trail or book from when I was a kid, but old computers bother me.

The originals are mostly lost to the ages. I still use my rebuilt Thinkpad 600E with NT4 almost every day though. I was the shit at school with that thing.
I've never thrown out a computer. Fuck half of the ones I do have were saved from the trash
My childhood computers got repurposed by my family, since they're the ones who bought them after all. Since then I've sold a thoroughly busted Dell for parts, donated a few other laptops and keep the most recent set of spare desktop components in a box just in case.
No emotion in the devices themselves, just the memories I have of them. That's more than plenty.
Install gentoo in it for shits and giggls

Here's some "cool story".
Year ago I managed get my fist PC back from, literaly, a fucking war zone, from what used to be my apartments. TUSL2-C with bitchin' fast 1ghz coppermine, 256 megs SDRAM 133, fucking gforce256 DDR.
I spent hours playing Porsche Unleashed, Specialist mod and HL DM via dialup, it was my daily driver up to 2009.
Oh, and it's still works! Fells good man.
