Linux is for people who want an os they can be productive and have fun with. When I say productive, you 90% of the time have to be a total tech autist. Most tech autists don't need the application support or will take the time to get it running in wine.
If they ask you why, is because you told them to switch. Don't tell them to switch.
Otherwise, just say "no reason really, I was just wrong, have a good day"

I use GNU/Linux and I don't think everyone should switch. I've used Windows 7 and OS X extensively and I've decided that it's the best OS for what I want to do, mainly, having all the software I want with a minimal hassle.
If someone says "hey getting gcc to work on Windows is a pain in the ass" I'll tell them to give GNU/Linux a try, and if they hate it that's fine.
GNU/Linux is the best for some people, just like Windows 7 is the best for some people (gamers), and OS X is the best for other people (I'm not sure who these people are).

My servers run Linux as it's good for servers.
My desktop runs Windows as it's good for desktops.
