Honestly, iTunes is pretty decent. I can't really find another media player that sanely managed podcasts like iTunes does.
Though, podcasts are the only thing I use it for.

1. better tags, whose can be read by practically anything and by all major OS, whose don't have predefined values
2. ability to embed cover art in the file
