They remove the support to turn off DirectWrite because of their code removal for XP and Vista.

https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=579196

Which leaves all the ones without a proper Full HD setup with blurry fonts and bad rendering.

Well done fucking assholes, well done!
>>
>>54925703
>XP and Vista

It's time to move one
>>
>>54925703
I don't see how that's going mad. They're just deprecating an OS that Microsoft has stopped supporting, and which now has a dwindling userbase.

Cleaning up the code rot of supporting XP is nothing but a good thing.
>>
>>54925753
Well, it affects also tons of people with no HD setup. If you have only a minor graphic chip and no full hd monitor, you are fucked.
>>
>>54925753
This change will also hit a lot of people with recent operating systems with various Laptops or Desktop machines.

Chromium/Chrome is no option anymore.
>>
>>54925788
I don't understand what this has to do with having a HD resolution, do you mean just weak/shitty GPUs without proper HW acceleration?
>>
>>54925922
Most people do not have a fully state of the art computer setup.

Means a majority of users will be affected by that change. This is hardly something good!
>>
>REEEEEEEEEE MY TENDIES MY XP MY VISTA REEEEEEE
>>
>>54925703
Is this just for those who use Chrome? In that case - meh.
>>
>>54925939
I don't understand this REEEE meme. Please explain it to me, anon.

Hook this meme into my veins.
>>
>>54925955
It affects every Chromium based browser.

I don't understand. Who _exactly_ is affected by this?

>people using xp/vista
>peopling using sub HD resolutions

Just KYS.

If you do not have a state of the art screen or graphic card.
>>
>>54926043
What does state of the art screen or graphic card means? And what the fuck does my screen has to do with the font rendering of my browser?

If you have no full hd setup, fonts will be blurry and fuzzy. As Google removes also graphic quality support for low end/mid end computer systems, mainly laptops.

Is that that hard to understand?

>>
>>54926129
No, I don't go to websites to learn about memes. Only 4chan users get to tell me about memes.

Reading about that shit takes the magic out of it, and I like the possibility of 4chan users lying and making shit up when I ask them to explain a meme to me.

You'd all be surprised how much more fun the internet is by doing this. Makes shit feel like the days of Nintendo Power and arcades.
>>
>>54926138
Yes, it's hard to understand what the fuck 'a full hd setup' means. Can't you speak more clearly?
>>
>>54926210
resolutions of 1920 x 1080
>>
>>54925703
Why does this matter? Just buy a Chromebook, scrub
>>
>tfw op thinks having a 1920*1080 monitor is a state of the art setup
I have two and they were like 100 bucks each and I wasn't even trying to get a deal
>>
>>54926224
And do you actually think a 1080p monitor is state of the art?

http://www.geek.com/games/john-carmack-coded-quake-on-a-28-inch-169-1080p-monitor-in-1995-1422971/
>>
>>54926224
I use resolutions less than 1920x1080 because i have no monitors that big. 1 is 1366x768 and the other is 1600x900

the fonts look fine with directwrite. not blurry at all. wtf is wrong with you?
>>
>>54926138
no, u don't understand. unless you are using 90s - 2005 era graphics accelerator with no directwrite support, it won't affect anything, which in the sense would affect like IMO 5-8% of the users. other areas where legacy support is demanded, they mostly use internet explorer 6 or something.

tl;dr it's nice u are saving money for your loo prajeet, but just upgrade it PC, or like kys whatever. it's a good move on their part for cleaning up shitty legacy codes.

Translation: he's crying about ClearType. With GDI you can switch off ClearType and have "pixel perfect" (but ugly) fonts at small sizes.

I have no idea about the topic desu, but, can't you use a opengl-based renderer or something?

So it's a case of this?

>3,000,000,000 people use a product

>those 50 people complain, loudly
>the other 2,999,999,950 don't give a shit
>>
>>54926371
They can but Windows has a shitty opengl implementation and forces developer to maintain direct3D for legacy sakes.

The best option is just not to use Chromrium.
>>
>>54925703

good, we have to move on.
>>
I looked i flags and it seems removed already in Chrome beta. I didn't even notice any difference??

Poorfag with 1366x768 and Intel gpu.

I have one sitting somewhere around the house. It's in a terrible shape so I can't really sell it but I haven't found any use either with such resolution and image quality. Used to play a lot of shit on it though. That black frame interpolation on retroarch was fucking sweet.
>>
>>54926983
Yeah, but the "stand" its on it utter shit, thing wobbles like a politicians moral compass
>>
Totally agree
>>
>>54925753
>which now has a dwindling userbase.
That's because you're a jobless basement dwelling fuckstain who doesn't realize there are hundreds of thousands of workstations still running xp, and 2K systems which won't be phased out in 50 or even 100 years, because replacing them would mean tremendous costs. Not that it matters because those systems don't run chrome, just pointing out you're a fucking retard.
>>
>>54927016
Right on. It's fairly heavy as well.
>>
>>54925703
Who the hell goes plain non-smoothed fonts in 2016? Even I gave up on that, and I was using it up to last year. I thought I was the last holdout.
>>
>>54927167
Yeah, for a flatscreen its rather bulky

but that fucking stand is cancer incarnte man

I should really get an afermarket stand, it DOES have VESA mount holes after all.
>>
>>54925703
I have a 1366x768 screen on my laptop. Will I get blurry fonts now?

Well, not Google, that's for sure. I guess whoever cares about getting them to use their products, are the ones who care about them, and more importantly, how they will be using those products.

DirectWrite has nothing to do with resolution, it's using the GPU to HW accelerate the graphics rendering. Your resolution has fuck all to do with it.

And any GPU made in the last 6 years can handle doing it.
>>
So switch to Linux if support for Windows is dropped.
>>
>>54926418
Yep. Any GPU since like 2009 or 2008 fully supports DW. XP is a literally dead OS and has no support anymore and Vista's markets share is so small as to be insignificant. OP is just a whiny cunt.
>>
>>54925703
They'd remove all windows compatibility code if they could.

Are you retarded?
>>
>>54927131
Also

>Implying an outdated system with outdated workstation grade parts can even hold up to modern software
>>
>Vista

>DirectWrite is a text layout and glyph rendering API by Microsoft. It was designed to replace GDI/GDI+ and Uniscribe for screen-oriented rendering and was shipped with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (with Platform Update installed).[1]

This only affects people who are using Windows XP. If you are using Windows XP you might as well be using IE6 while you're at it. You don't deserve better than that.
>>
>>54926138

Even fucking GMA 950 would be enough. That's like the lowest of the low from a billion years ago.

This would literally only affect people running Windows XP with like a fucking ATI Rage or something.

Fuck people who are using 16 year computers. They can use Internet Exploder.

Shut up and stop feeding this idiot. Resolution has nothing to do with it. You can use DirectWrite on a 640x480 screen.

HAHAHAHAH

No, seriously you're dumb as a bag of nails.

Literally confirmed for never having worked in enterprise environment. Keep living in your cozy little bubble, basement dwelling shitbag.
>>
>>54927131
>>54932067
Enterprise systems are supposed to have migration plans to upgrade. It's their own fault if they are not prepared for events that are known decades in advance.
>>
>>54927131
I'm Eastern European, I've been working on graphical workstations since 2008 and even then XP was fucking rare.

Stop being a fucking ingrate. Workstations are one of the most upgraded pieces of enterprise tech out there.

Now if we were talking about servers that's another story, but I still don't see how any of these machines have anything to do with Google removing couple hundred lines of compatibility code from a consumer application.
