Oldfag here, 3dfx stopped being good once the Voodoo 3 set the tone for future cards, they were (initially) cheap and fast, but all at the expense of image quality in a time where people were starting to care about that shit in a post-PS2 world
The Voodoo 2 was their only REALLY good card, because it came during an era where early combo cards were garbage, and the pro-est setup was a good Matrox or S3 for 2D, and a Voodoo 2 for 3D
