Your manufacturer provides drivers for your specific model which you can download installers.

Agree, except competing OSs are not good for everyone. If Linux had an equal use share to OSX/Windows, then you'd see a lot better software being released to support it

Also, just to dispel this driver bullshit, the Linux kernel started being more liberal with it's driver inclusions ages ago. Linux supports almost all compliant hardware now.

Where the fuck is my compositing? Where the fuck is my lock shortcut? Where the fuck is my language switching? Where the fuck are my volume buttons? Why the fuck is the clock updating once per 5 seconds? Why the fuck do I have to open a terminal to put the machine to sleep?

Sure, go ahead and fucking tell me that i3 is hurdd durr minimalism do-it-yourself whatever, but then name a tiling wm that isn't like that?

Let's go ahead and shit on anything that normal people use and circlejerk about bullshit that only works to take a screenshot of me watching anime in a meme video player (actually it only works for just the screenshot because if you try to set up compositing it will make mpv skip frames and tear), not realizing that it is incompatible with anything a real human may want to do on a computer and falls apart once you try to do something a 5 year old low-end Android phone does without an issue.

I'm honestly more enjoying hanging out with code artisans who write meme JavaScript frameworks because they are at least a couple of levels closer to the real world than this autismfest.

Because it nets you exponentially more hipster credit if you use an OS that makes an OS that makes a hipster OS (like OS X) look mainstream look mainstream.

I think I did that right.
>>
>>54918444
Its hip to get fucked in the ass by corporations but still stay out of the mainstream by not writing proprietary software, so the logical thing to do is to jump out of GNU to the BSD world where people will make money out of your code without asking you a thing.
>>
>>54918508
Oh look, another idiot that doesn't understand the BSD license
>>
>>54918444

I don't know what matters to you, but to me what matters is technical prowess and practicality. OpenBSD quite frankly just werx for me. The defaults are sane and everything just behaves the way it should, and it has all the capabilities I need for my personal and business needs. Almost all the servers I deploy run OpenBSD.

Again, I don't know what matters to you, but if you care about something being or looking "mainstream" or not, then by the looks of it it seems like you're not concerned about objective and measurable criteria, but what other people think.

BSD-fags, everyone. I think the word "cuck" would suit this situation so very well its incredible.

GNU logic, ladies and gentlemen!

BSD is like plopping source code on the table and saying look what I made. You can use it if you want, or not. I don't really care either way. Just give me credit if you do.

Apple is simply a company that decided to use it.

>le epik cuck meme
We need the filter back
>>
>>54918553

Seems like you don't know the history.

Mac OS X isn't "FreeBSD with a cute GUI". You are very uninformed and speaking out of your own ass. Only the userland and the libc on Mac OS X derive from FreeBSD code. Most of the operating system has nothing to do with FreeBSD.

Apple did contribute and still contributes a LOT of code back to FreeBSD, including a whole C++ stack and compiler.

I wonder why this argument only comes up when we're discussing Linux vs. BSD, not when we're discussing other software, given that most free software out there is BSD-style licensed. Oh wait, I know, it's because there's no technical argument against BSD and in favour of Linux.

Stay rectally shattered, Lincuck.

They give only enough to say "HEY LOOK WE'RE CONTRIBUTING TO OPEN SOURCE"
>>
>>54918627

I'm not defending Apple, I'm just dissipating FUD.
>>
>>54918627
So what if they do? They don't need to give shit
>>
>>54918644
I didn't say they did. I'm saying they're doing it strictly as a marketing move to make it look like "HEY WERE CONTRIBUTING" while actually not doing a whole lot. It's deceptive. Same way Microsoft is force upgrading users to pad its adoption numbers. It's not technically lying but it's dishonest.

Is that why Apple stopped selling xserve machines (the right tool to run OS X server) five years ago?

It's not like an Apple shill could leave some box unchecked, it has to look perfect in every way. At least the other systems generously received more than one box checked.

Linux is not UNIX certified. Linux also has nothing to do with serviceable hardware. Unless you mean driver "less driver problems". In which case it's the worst. You should consider the shells as well.

Linux/osx have a better shell, as an environment. Windows has a far better shell, as a scripting language tightly integrated with the os. Shame its not intended to run cli-focused programs like tmux or irc. Or at least nobody's done it.

AutoCAD.
Illustrator. Any professional modelling suite program. Excel, and other macro-enabled spreadsheet interfaces to declarative number-crunching and logic suitable for export to graphs, histograms and other formats for professional analysis. Pretty much any professional financial or accounting software. That stuff doesn't even tier l get ported to OSX.

summerfaggots won't probably know what such a big word means.

Windows 7 is fucking far from deprecated. It's in use everywhere. Every fucking piece of software which is aimed for windows pretty much has to work on 7, apart from ms' own pieces of shit, but that's a different matter
>>
>>54916814

Linux is not unix. It's not even unix compatible. So fucking what, unix haven't been used anywhere in the last 20 years.

Unix compatibility is not a positive thing in a modern os. It's weight, bloat, unneeded.
