I'm looking to buy a TKL ISO DE keyboard with MX reds. I want to put Thick Cherry Caps on it, so the board must have Cherry Stabilizers.
The only board that fulfills these requirments seems to be the CM-Storm Rapid i. It looks pretty decent except for all the LEDs i don't need.
Does anyone know if it's possible for cherry key caps to hit the LEDs when bottoming out? If that's not the case I guess I can live with 88 unecessary LEDs...

I said fuck mechanicals and bought this rubber dome K40.
First thing I noticed was the brightness of the LEDs was MUCH better than the brightness of the mechanical k70. Look at the picture. The K70s will blind you, but the K40's LEDs are purely and beautifully functional. They'll let you see the keys in the dark without blinding or distracting you or lighting up your ceiling.
It's also quieter, and I can rest my thumb on the space bar without setting it off every 2 seconds.

Topre and Matias Quiet Click. Don't EVER use Cherry MX if you want tactile switches. Clears or ergo clears are acceptable, but clears are heavy and ergo clears require modding.

I used to use a Model M many years ago. Currently using shitty cheap rubber dome just about anything would be an improvement on.
I don't necessarily want to go all the way to buckling spring, because choice is very limited and I would like NKRO. We don't really mind noise.
I type on ISO 104 key, GB layout. 30 years in ISO, so I'm not changing.
I was thinking either Cherry MX Greens or Matias clicky switches. I'm kind of drawn to Matias but I'm worried about the relative selection of boards and keycaps and I might have trouble getting ISO layout.
Floating keycaps boards look nice but how are they to type on? To clean? And how do they react to a cat sitting on them? (Like it or not, this is going to happen.)

I actually was waging Zealios against Topre some time ago (prior to me getting my HHKB), and upon having gotten a sample of both I ultimately went for Topre. Zealios felt like cherry clears, with the same sluggish tactile bump, a bit smoother and without the increasing force after bottoming out. Okay, got the soarer's converter hooked up to my IBM EMR keyboard. I think my keyboard tray is going to snap under the weight of this thing.
Typing on it, layout aside, is a different experience than anything else I am used to. I stray toward lighter keys, and these are a bit heavy for me, I think.
Next step is to enclose the controller inside a case. I had to desolder the cable from the DIN connector as it was frayed, so I've soldered the controller directly to the end of the cable. The metal, inner sheath is also a bit frazzled at the end, so I'm going to hide it inside a project box I got locally.
It's nice to see that all the keys work, though.

Just bought a Tomoko mechanical pretty cheap. Knock-off blue switches, reviews were pretty good, and it's "spill-proof."
Has anyone used any Tomoko keyboards before? Any opinion on what they're like? I'm not a keyboard aficionado and this will be my first mech keyboard in the past few years. Good one to start with?
