What the fuck? I've done this on some other computers so I know Windows 10 isn't that big. I've also checked C:/ and there's no folders taking up a significant amount of space. So what the fuck could be using up so much data? Are my old files still hidden somewhere?

Our brains are bottlenecking our eyes which are sometimes bottlenecking real life. The possible frames per second our eyes can provide would vary depending on how far away the object in question is. An object 186000 miles away can only be seen at one frame per second.

interesting.

but how many frames per second IS the physical real life? not how much we can see but when an object moves for example, how many frames per second does it move at? there has to be a number.

What is a good tool to make bootable usb drives for a Windows installation?

I need the drive to be formatted in FAT32.
I tried the Windows tool and it formats automatically in NTFS.
I tried Rufus and it doesn't let me format in FAT32 as well, because the .iso file is too big.
I don't really see the logic in this, since the files that get extracted on the flash drive are not bigger than 4GB, so..

Any other suggestions?

CPUID read the same.

Well, hold on. The bios said 12.42V, but I had the revelation that it could be the goofy PCIE auxilary sata power port on the mobo. So I pulled that. Lo and behold the bios read 5.1v after this.

After rebooting my PC my fans started to surge, which they recently started doing at initial boot. but this was bad, like about to fucking just quit bad. Then everything stabalized and I`m posting. But CPUID and speccy are back to reading 12.4V on the +5 rail.

Would this more likely be a PSU or a vrm issue?
>>
>>54882549
It will probably not like it, since it's expecting a completely different set of hardware to be there. Though I admit, I don't know how different operating systems handle that. I remember my Linux HDD actually booting up and all, but Windows went apeshit.

I guess in a way it's kinda like changing out a part of your computer and booting up. So, it should be fine I guess. The mobo is the biggest question.
>>
>>54882875
Everything seems to be fine now other than my CPU running unusually hot which has been an increasing problem. Speaking of my OC, my CPU has been consistently running about 2mhz slower than what I had the bclk set to. Like it was really struggling to maintain what it had.

Temps wise I think this x5650 just has sever solder degredation like my poor dead i7 920. It seems fine stock clocks, and my rad fan at full blast. But if I load the CPU at all the temps spike like crazy. Like.. 90 seconds of 50% utilization and I`m in the breaking 70C..

It's telling you straight up that there is a file over 4GB within the ISO. FAT32 can't support a file that size.

Is this a Windows ISO? Check the size of install.wim.
>>
>>54883141
>>54883157
Now I see the filename at the bottom: Windows 7 with updates integrated. I made one of those myself with updates going to May 2016. The install.wim came out to be over 5GB. NTFS is _required_ here.
>>
>>54883121
The dimensions don't tell me shit. Motherboards don't come with a 'maximum CPU HSF size that won't block any RAM slots'. Do I have to order the mobo first and take a ruler to it?
>>

Yes, as I mentioned this is an issue only with UEFI boards, they can't boot from NTFS usb drives, unlike BIOS.
The install.wim is over 4 gigs, yes.

On a fresh install of stock Windows 7 SP1, you can't install VC++ Redist 2015? Does it need .NET 4.x or something?
>>
>>54883245
What do you mean by stock?
Obviously, I pirate it and I used a preeetty old release, from 2011, I think.
I've tried to install the redistributable but it always failed because it needed some components from a later Win7 upd.
Do you have any tips on how to solve this motherfucker?
>>
>>54883188
A full side dimm module is 133.5mm long. You can use this information as a reference point to find out how far from the center of the socket your nearest slot is. You can take the dimension of the cooler, divide by half, and add 30mm for the thickness of the fan. If this goes passed the nearest slot, and you have finned ram, then it will be an issue.
>>
>>54883282
Groovy, thanks.
>>
>>54883279
Stock = provided by Microsoft (or OEM) and untouched (no cracks, etc)

Try installing .NET 4.6 before installing VC++ Redist 2015.

I have an i5-4690 with a shit tier stock intel fan and it gets loud as fuck sometimes.

I want to get a cheap closed loop cooler because I've got an M-ITX case with a top/back mounted PSU so cpu cooler clearance is like 100mm or something.

But I want it to be quiet as shit. 4690 draws only 84W so this is no problem except that the coolers I'm looking at (e.g. corsair H50, H55, H60) aren't PWM so they'll run at full noise all the time. So my CPU will be cold as fuck but it won't actually be quiet.

Is it retarded to buy a separate fan? Is there a decent budge closed loop cooler that I'm totally missing that has similar price and performance and also has a PWM fan?

Go with the thinkpad approach.

Get a Lenovo, or an HP/Dell. Look at their business class models. The desktop will come with an i5/i7 in a box that was designed to collect dust in an office or a dusty garage/warehouse for 5/10 years. Then just get your graphics and your storage and you are off to the races. Its the same idea that the companies sell off their new equipment every year or two/always are buying new stuff selling fairly new stuff for cheap.

Often times they even come with a windows key, if you are not using free software.

Yeah that's probably way more than you need. I don't know what kind of software you use for log relay but you need what, maybe a couple MB process,100 MB in buffers plus whatever overhead to get your minimal OS up and running... I meant on the h50. They`re rated at 30dBa, Just looked up a bench that put the h110 at 49 DB with both fans at max speed, and 37DB at low speed (7v low speed adapters.) 30db is library level of noise. But your PSU could be making the noise you`re hearing.

>>54884055
I`ve never seen anyone with or any info on such a setup. But maybe I was just using the wrong terminology when searching for it.

I`m considering building a custom case. I want to try and maximize space efficiency and cooling. I was considering a setup like this to get a steady ambient or barely above ambient rig. Then possibly use TECs to introduce chilled air to the rads for potential sub ambient system temps.

>>54884147
I believe you do that through your actual media player.

>>54884159
Price:perf ratio. 1080 is less than 7.5% faster in that bench, and costs >20% more money. But to 1080 has a better perf:watt ratio, as a single card solution should. And those are most likely not running at full capacity anyway.

Decide on all the other things you want in your system before the motherboard, its price is largely governed by how new the technologies are its trying to connect. If you are overbudget scale back on your other parts and you will find the price of a compatible motherboard reduced as well.

Yes. A lot.
MSI, Biostar, and Asus make solid but overpriced boards.
Gigabyte makes reasonably priced boards, but some of them are iffy. Read the reviews
ASRock makes cheap boards. Some are ok.
Everything else is crap unless you get lucky.

I'll be using just rsyslog on a minimal CentOS 6.8 to keep everything as slim as possible along with a pair of reliable 2.5" SATA drives in a raid1 array.

I thought of using Graylog instead of rsyslog just so it's easier for their techs to go through the logs in the event something has happened in the non-security space, but I'm concerned about the extra overhead.

All depends on what you intend to do with it, and how the review copies bench. The current assumption is DX11 = Nvidia with top day 1 performance and typical jewvidia shenanigans. DX12 = AMD with slow but steady optimization on a budget.

But the 480 isn`t even meant to compete with the 1070 / 1080. They`re just pointing out that you can get similar performance for less with 2 little red guys on your side. It also goes a lot deeper than that because the pascal so far isn`t overclocking for shit, even on the aftermarket cards and maxwell has significantly better IPC. For all the shit AMD got for rebrands, it`s hilarious how much people completely ignore the fact that Pascal is literally a die shrunk overclocked Maxwell on one leg.

I honestly would suggest anyone willing to spend that kind of money to just get a 980ti and get it to a 1400mhz OC, because it`ll perform damn near the same as a 1080 at that point.

>>54884294
Just consider what features you need, then what you want, what form factor, then see what boards are going for and select a number of them within a price range you`re willing to pay.

For instance, most people always suggest a K chip and a Z or X board for intel builds. This is because those are the highest performance chips, and the boards are made for overclocking. Overclocking can squeeze out that extra bit of performance, and even extend the life of an aging system. But if you don`t care about that, then save yourself the money and don`t bother with those.
>>54884328
This is accurate.

What are the consequences of using a power supply for 8 years?
>>
>>54884601
Uhh well a bad power supply can lead to not being able to post, sometimes dropping power (you'll think it's a driver crash or a loose cable, but it isn't) or if it power surges it could fry some of your parts connected to it.
But theoretically even a good PSU can do that if you get a bad unit. Spending more just gives you more security in the dice roll.
>>
>>54884514
to be fair, rebrands are totally different from die-shrinking.

of course, silicon manufacturing is a totally different playing field from processor architecture design. but it's kind of lame that nvidia's architecture people haven't come up with anything while the manufacturing guys made individual transistors like 40% smaller.

maybe next year they'll have something great, who knows

I bought one of pic related last summer for my Pentium D 950/Quadro FX1800 machine. In December I was playing World of Kung Fu for about 2 hours and the PSU literally blew up. I'm lucky it didn't take my board, RAM, or anything else out with it. I initially thought it just blew an internal fuse so I bought a pack of 5 fuses, soldered the new one on the board, and fired it up... It immediately blew the fuse. while I had it open I inspected it and... well... it's probably a stretch to think it could ever handle the load from that machine.... Maybe it would handle an old Pentium II 450/ATI Rage Pro or something, maybe a P3 on a stretch but not what I had it in.

I replaced it with a 400W Insignia PSU I got for cheap from Best Buy's ebay account. It weighed almost twice as much as the imicro and I took it apart to inspect it before I plugged it up. I'm pretty confident that it's at least middle-of-the-road decent.

Difference between using GeDoSaTo vs AMD Virtual Super Resolution (which for me only goes up to 3200x1800) doesn't go up to 4k (3840 x 2160) which i read is optimal for down-scaling because it rounds to that number perfectly or something. GeDoSaTo down-samples perfectly for me in games, why can't AMD's solution work the same way?
>>
>>54884920
Limiting framerate to 60hz will only lower it if it would have gone above. Obviously it won't help you if your framerate was slightly below 60hz, where vsync will (though it will have to lower it further to do so)

I don't think there's really any benefit to rendering above your screen's refresh rate, no. Though it might have minor consequences in things like how physics are calculated, but I don't know how noticeable it would be in most cases, especially if you can't actually view the effects above 60fps.

>>
>>54884920
Best of my knowledge would be that as long as you never drop below 60FPS the only thing vsync will do over a locked framerate is increase input lag. Vsync + buffering allows you to maintain a clean experience even without being able to render full 60FPS.

>>54884959
Are you sure your GPU supports 4k? You could just try SSAA, which I believe is what you`re actually trying to achieve anyways. Virtual super resolution is more of a productivity based thing allowing you to scale a higher resolution onto a lower res panel, it`s essentially just the same thing as shrinking everything on your screen.

SSAA (Super Sampling Anti Aliasing) renders the game at a higher resolution, and downscales it to your screen. Not sure how the multipliers work on it, though. But yes, 3840x2160 is ideal because it is exactly 2x 1080, so you get perfect up/downscaling without half pixels. 2560x1440 is perfect for someone still using a 720p display as well.

>>54885070
Should be lagless without vsync on, but you could experience stutter if you locked it exactly at 60. Better to go slightly above and activate triple buffering so your gpu is always ready to present a frame.

Yeah I dunno then.

You gotta tweak / turn up the settings while mixing it with madvr at the same time. Still not 100% in some cases, but occasionally seeing some dithering is way the hell better than tearing and stutter.

Once I get my e5-2667 v2 machine setup, or get this fucking x5650 properly cooled, I will be figuring out how to get it perfect. Best results by far always come from removing thread limiting in the settings. But there are other settings I dare not fuck with considering I have heat issues running shit at 60fps right now. I thought GCN and Cuda were more analogous to x86 (describes an instruction set), while Polaris etc. are analogous to Ivy Bridge, Haswell, etc (describes a hardware implementation of an instruction set). Correct me if I'm wrong but a quick look at Wikipedia makes me pretty confident about this.

You could definitely name a file ".jpg" but that's valid in windows. Pretty sure you could name it " " (i.e. the space character). GNU and Unix might even be able to handle "" (a truly empty string) because everything is written in C so that string is just a null terminator. But that's just speculation.
>>
>>54885110
pretty sure SSAA and virtual super resolution are identical, it's just a matter of which program is doing the rendering. SSAA is more of a software level thing whereas virtual super resolution is a firmware level thing. you might get better or worse performance one way or the other but obviously some games dont do SSAA
>>
>>54885466
well virtual super resolution simply doesn't work for me because naively i'm at 1080p and need to go for 4k for optimal downscaling but it doesn't allow me to go that far. I'm super late to this one and I'm surprised nobody else has said what im going to say.

TL;DR: about 1.86*10^44 frames per second according to (some but not all) theoretical physics

long explanation:
1. energy is quantized. energy can only exist in integer multiples of a certain amount (called a quantum)

2. there exists a frequency of electromagnetic radiation such that one photon carries the smallest possible amount of energy (i.e. 1 quantum times 1)

3. there exists a length that is the shortest possible length between two "peaks" of a wave of that frequency. this is called the planck length. under some theoretical models, it is physically impossible measure anything more precisely than one planck length

4. there exists an amount of time that it takes for light to travel on planck distance. this is called the planck time. in the same theoretical models, it is physically impossible to measure time more precisely than one planck time.

5. therefore framerate of the universe = 1/planck time = approx 1.86*10^44 frames per second

I set up my Node.JS application so that it listens on port 80 for incoming connections. But that doesn't work. When I run my node app and try to view the page, Firefox says "Unable to connect" and Chrome gives me error "ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE".

However, when I run the exact same code on my local machine, it works and it displays the web page. Why?

I investigated into it a little with telnet from my local machine to the server and it says "telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host" against port 80. The VPS is able to ping google.ca, but it can't ping my local machine, and it can't ping my cell phone (when its connected via WiFi or data). My local machine can ping the server though.

Thank you in advance.

will the installation of windows 10 and the shitty forced upgrades (that I have disabled now in windows 7) fuck up all this setup? That meaning that windows 10 will mess with the linux drive.

Thanks for the help

Holy shit, I just discovered the FLACCL encoder for FLAC which uses OpenCL on your GPU to encode, and it's blazing fast - yet the compression is equal to libFLAC and flake, with all of them set at max compression level.

So what's the catch?

How low is working as a dev for a ecommerce company? It's basically being the lowest tier of web dev right? Which is the lowest tier of dev itself.

Nevermind, fixed it. I had to click S.T. Mode to go into the UEFI, set 14 cores to active then reboot.

What is Zen's 40% IPC increase even going to mean for AMD's competitiveness? Is it even going to be a decent price when it comes out, or is it just going to create parity with intel for a little less of the same price?

AMD fanboys are waiting on Zen like it's the second coming of Christ (pbuh) and I just don't have the same faith.

nvm fixed it
if anyone is interested it was by changing the permissions of the device off the live cd

Basically nothing. It's just AMD stepping into the new age, ready to get destroyed again.

It is simply capable of much higher frequency range and thus transfer speeds.
change only if you need more upstream/downstream/pings/static IP

I underclocked my laptop wrong (made boost frequency identical to base frequency instead of turning boost off) and now my laptop won't even boot into bios. Did it died?
>>
>>54887217
>not using windows power management
why? it lets you set the the maximum cpu usage, which is basically an underclock.

if it doesn't boot into bios, the mobo is probably fucked. try resetting CMOS, though.
