Hey /g/

What are your thoughts on the DEFCON conferences?

For anyone that doesn't know it's a yearly hacking conference that happens in Las Vegas at the end of July early August.

It's so intriguing to me, currently my favorite speaker was Jayson Street at DEFCON 19.

Check it out and tell me what you think.. This presentation was about social engineering/penetration testing.

I can't follow the encryption panels for shit. But as far as all the others I love it. SE panels have got to be my favorite.

>lol such I'm such a bad guy xd like mision imposibel :DDD
>i have no feelings, i'm so bad lol total psychopath pappet master haha

He's a sad fuck and trying too hard to convince himself he's tough. He was probably abused as a child.

Anyway the video started interesting enough (getting in secured areas of a corporate office as a stranger is quite an achievement) but degrated to "I stole your phone so I can kill your family and use you as hostage" to the pathetic "oh, a storage closet with a warning for cleaning chemicals and a list of names, I can now set the hotel on fire and kill everyone".

That's because these shit practically never happen, because there's no reward. How often does a crazy person go killing everyone in a hotel? And even the hardest corporate competitors won't do such things. He's proving the obvious, that people don't prepare for things that are much less likely than winning the lottery.

I've been. Love going, always meet cool folks, been shadowed a time or two by the plainclothes feds (who REEEEEEALLY look like plainclothes feds), managed to get a couple of victims on the wall of sheep (turn off your phone and don't be such a noob that you connect to just any "free" wifi SSID). The talks were always good except when Mr Government Man showed up at 20 and tried to make the case for recruitment during his speech.

... and the chicks... easiest pussy I've ever had.

I like CCC a bit more than Defcon. Specially the side events and shit, fucking lol. But it started to turn into a political correctness fest, hope it wont go down the drain completely.

I've went 11 times. Since DC08. I didn't go every year and I haven't gone for the last 2 years. Maybe I got too old. It used to be about neckbearded fedoras talking about building your own gsm base station. Over the last few years, it became more "inclusive". Defcon for kids! (actually happened). Special area for LBQTTTFRLMNOP (actually happened). It feels like the sjws took over here as well. There's talk of going this year. I am on the fence. If you have nothing to compare it to, it's worth going at least once. Please note: due to not wanting to pay taxes, they only take money at the door. This has lead to a number of colossal fuck ups with badges and "customer service" because they didn't manufacture enough of the "3lit3" badges (I will admit, the badges are pretty cool).

I just checked the webpage. It's at Bally's and that's sold out. The Flamingo is alright for $$ and just across the street. Paris is marginally fancier and next door to Bally's. I was just in Vegas last week for a different con. We stayed at the Flamingo because fuck $299/night at Cesars.

I normally go down Thursday night and see if I can get my tickets early. The con is Fri/Sat/Sun..I leave Monday morning. If you can't blow off work Monday, then leave Sunday, you aren't missing much.

Try to split a room with a couple of buddys. Eat food out of the Walgreens or CVS (next to Ballys). If you want to live the old days, take a cab or bus up LV Blvd and go to the Peppermill, next to the Riveria, which was the home for DC for a bunch of years.

Ballys is a much better choice than the Rio. If you didn't have a car, you were pretty much fucked at the Rio for options. Legend had it one year, some DC attendees got robbed walking between LV Blvd and the Rio on the overpass.

Other protips: drink plenty of water. Dehydration will give you a massive headache and Vegas is a marathon not a sprint. Don't blow your wad on the first night. Pace yourself. Get shitty on Saturday night. Keep it together

I have also had said "e-z pussy". Since DC is usually a massive sausage fest, anyone with a vagina and not unconscious feels like a beauty queen. Fat, ugly girls all feel the same in the dark.

Vegas is a cool fucking city. This just triggered me. Desperately want to go back. (Yuropoor) I don't drink now tho so perhaps it's lost some """magic""" (let's face it, it's adult disneyland)
>>

basically a place where feds go to gather intel

that's about it

I drink way less now (No booze previous 3 months) had 6 beers in Vegas over 5 days. It's still doable without booze. I am also asleep by 11 and up at 530 am, 7 days a week. The gym at the Flamingo opens at 6am and is covered by your $33/day - "resort fee".

For the record, I don't gamble either. Unless I was going to a con, I am not sure I would go to Vegas for a vacation.

It is Adult Disneyland...in that it exists to separate you from as much of your money as quickly as possible.

Oh, I gamble. Kek. Slightly triggered by American roulette with your 2 x 0's (0 & 00) Blackjack is fun tho. I don't know if it's the weather or what, but it's a cool place, and I really hope to go back at some point. Really recommend everybody visits. Have some fantasy of being able to afford a private jet and taking it over the pond with my pals onboard. One can dream.

Nah, there's a bunch of store and shit within walking distance from Rio, plus the Palms and IIRC Gold Coast are right next door.

Bally's is directly on the strip so that's better for obvious reasons but you're gonna pay strip prices for everything. I was just out there and instead of paying strip prices for beer and assorted other liquor we stopped at a local chain called "Lee's Discount Liquor" straight down Flamingo rd a couple of miles and bought an assload of shit for cheap and was drunk pretty much from the time we got back to our room at The Linq to the time we left.

You're right about pacing yourself though. One trip to Vegas we went with another couple and within 3 hrs of getting to the hotel my buddy's wife was shitfaced and throwing up on her slot machine. She was pretty bad off the rest of the trip.

With a post like that it sounds like you are too young to even enter the casino floor.

I go, its a good chance to meet up with old buddies and take a week off of work to hit the craps tables. Only the tryhards talk about LOL THE FEDS XD, when in reality half the people you meet work with the government and they are all bros.

It's gotten too big for its own good now, still fun to go to and there are usually 1 or 2 good talks, otherwise its a better idea to hit the smaller conferences for the content.
