>looks better than the aero shit in windows 7

This one is dead wrong. With Aero on 7, the taskbar was transparent and the window borders were transparent, and matching color. In 10, the taskbar is black (or some other color if you set it manually) and the window borders are always white unless it's an "app"

>you can disable key botnet features easily

The only settings that you can alter without a third party application typically pop back out when you update the OS (which, of course, it automatic bt default).

Sorry dude, it's just not a good operating system. I've got a drive with it installed for those few games that just refuse to support Linux, but Fedora Linux is what I run 99% of the time.

Well,

-It's the same in terms of speed, unless you count a handful of games
-"Looks better" highly subjective, which doesn't even matter because on Windows 7 you have a much higher availability for custom themes. I think the Paint blocks everywhere show nothing but laziness, and it's not even consistent. In fact I will say, Windows 10 looks so bad I'd rather dual boot not to hurt my eyesight. It follows a shitty trend rather than creating anything. I'd love to get hired by microsoft to fix this shoddy mess.
-If you used Windows regularly you would probably have no need for it. I've been using windows 10 since the beginning of the year and I have used it twice.
-You cannot disable the botnet fully and the "leftovers" are bad enough. To think a tool or a bunch of commands can stop it is fairly delusional.

The only advantages I found on windows 10 are attributed to specific games or emulators.

This as well.
Also, sometimes when I click the search icon in the taskbar nothing happens. It is more reliable to click the start menu button and just start typing than click the search button.

In fact, I should just get rid of the search button. It has practically no purpose other than to sometimes fail.

Looks better, with the start menu tiles taken off I'll give you that.

There's no way you can disable all the botnet features. Broken as all hell. I gave in and actually used it as my main OS for 2 months. By the end of the two months, majority of programs would hardly ever load up, it took ages to navigate from folder, for some reason it hard such a hard time using my hard drive. Restart and Shutdown button did literally nothing. My WiFi was full on broken, from the very start it was slower than usual, by the end connecting to the WiFi did nothing.

When I gave up and tried to make a USB boot for Windows 7 it's as if it literally put up a fight. Wouldn't navigate to the folder where I downloaded the ISO, refused to load up any partition programs I installed, nor any USB boot creation programs.

Back to Windows 7 for 2 months and it's flawless, 10x faster, no issues, WiFi is god like once again.

0/10 would not touch again

So how tough is Linux to use for the computer illiterate?
>>
>>54877594

>>you can disable key botnet features easily

The question is - what you consider the botnet and what does /g/ Linux users consider the botnet.

It is known fact, stated by MS official articles and documentation, that you cannot disable the telemetry component at the core - it will always send data, only the data itself is controlled by various settings. For example, typical Home users will probably send packages containing app usage data, system cofnigurations, error reports and such. At the same time, Edu/Enterprise user that would switch off proper settings (honestly, it sucks that those are on by default and you have to set up it yourself first, even if you can just write script to do so - MS itself suggest this solution for administrators at companies), would still send packages, only this time limited to machine ID, system ID and machine class (desktop/laptop/tablet).

Packages themselves are encrypted (duh, if I would send my users possibly personal data, I would encrypt it too) and nobody officially (save for some guys from /g/ claiming they did so - nobody else managed to repeat the process, nor they shared the way how they did that) broke the encryption. You can always change various settings and compare sizes of such packages, if you have enough time for such activity.

But keep in mind that many people on /g/ consider botnet everything that connects back. Even if Win10 would connect only for legal verification and updates, it would still be called botnet. Also, all those rumors about NSA backdoors and such.

/g/ wont ever love Windows 10, that is a fact. How Windows 7 is somehow considered good OS and even recommended is a big surprise (even if it is usually followed by "...BUT you should use Linux distro anyway").

Myself, I dont really have much choice here, I need some kind of Windows and since Im about to buy new PC in next two months or something, it will have dual boot 7 and 10 (Edu). I had partition for Mint, but dont use it.

ubuntu and mint are arguably easier to use and harder to fuck up than any windows.
if you don't care about video games, you should be using linux.

>Windows snoops on the users' files, text input, voice input, location, contacts, calendar records and web browsing history, even after related settings are turned off:

For hell sake, at least update your pasta, instead of mindlessly copying it over and over. The first half of links are about technical preview version.

And later you wonder why people outside of /g/ dont treat you seriously.

I once asked mother if she wants Linux. She replied: "would my accounting software work under Linux?". I replied that I have no idea, so she said that she dont want experiments, but OS that will WORK.

I, myself, have a lot of software at work that works only under Windows and nobody have time and will to adjust them to work under Linux.

Shut the fuck up. You fags can't even into hardware acceleration right how the fuck is Linux faster than Windows? Just shut the fuck up and shove your sluggish timesink OS in your ass.

Guys, I have the opportunity to remove the windows 10 and install 7 with only the important updates that do not include stupid shit by microsoft up until may

Should I go back? It ain't like I'm going to be playing dx12 games anytime soon (except for ishiiruka which I can live without I guess)

Are you aware that EULA have to contain parts about every possibility and every component?

If you enable Cortana, she will collect very personal data. She is on by default, so it have to be mentioned in EULA. If you would use OneDrive (again, on by default), it will collect a lot of personal data (and scan your pictures).

Imagine the shitstorm, if it would NOT be mentioned.

What about Windows 10 Pro? Can you disable?
>>
>>54888501
you can try linux in a vm and then run your software with wine to see if it works. if it does, you can switch, if it doesn't, stick to windows.
a lot of professional software doesn't work on linux, but i assumed by computer illiterate you meant someone browsing facebook and youtube all day.

I will fully 100% switch over to Linux when the following happens.

>Adobe releases native support for there entire Creative Cloud suite
>My Steam library is about half supported: currently only 20 games out of 240 supported
>Blizzard now supports Linux
>Ubuntu drops unity
>Pacman stops breaking Arch
>systemd now includes a office suite

You are welcome. I just refuse to swallow everything without questions, so I try to check different opinions first. But Im often called "pajeet" for that.

You can switch to Linux, I doubt you're doing anything on XP with that machine that you can't do on a low-requirement Linux. With the added bonus of security (compared to XP) and likely even better performance as the low demand linuxs are less demanding than XP
