I'm trying to mod a game executable. I just want to change some values around if possible.
I've managed to edit some game text in a hex editor but, except for some plaintext function names and such, everything else seems to be garbage characters.
I disassembled the binary but I have no idea what I'm looking at, and I tried converting the assembly code to C++ with a program called Snowman but that just looked even more ridiculous and unreadable.
How exactly do I go about finding basic variables in the game if I only have assembly code to work with? Any tips on reverse engineering?

If you need to change basic values, i suggest you use something like Cheat Engine to find addresses(many tutorials online for that one), and then use c++ functions like WriteProcessMemory.

use cheatengine set memory breakpoints to find where shit is written to edit that shit if there is not enough space for your edits then find an empty area of memory put your shit in there, use jumps to get there and back.
