Jesus fucking Christ...
I just interviewed at this place for a network engineer position...
Walked into their NOC and saw this.
They just offered me the job.
Should just I walk the fuck away ?

You'll never be out of work trying to fix that shit.
>>
>>54855294
no.
its completely normal if it is a communication company like ISP.

cable porn photos are taken in places where you have "static" infrastructure, project and so on.

every ISP that develops cannot even use stripes because its completely normal that you redesign your network while its growing.
>>
>>54855294
THAT'S PROBABLY WHY THEY NEED YOU.
>>
>>54855294

There's probably not that much work in terms of tidying up the cabling, what's the rest of the network like?

I would get worried if the actual config is shit.

The rest of the network is remote cabinets which are equally disastrous...

I feel like that's pretty normal. I work in a telecoms R and D lab, and our network lab looks pretty much like that. As long as they have a system in place, you should be fine. Just ask someone, instead of flailing on your own.

Also, handy tip: Snapchat is great for taking notes on your set up in a pinch since you can draw on the pictures.

>Just ask someone, instead of flailing on your own.
I would be the only Network Engineer here.
>>
>>54855387
why not? dumb fuck
>>
There are worse setups floating around on the internet that is relatively tame. The wires appear to be tagged and most of them are running through conduit they just look messy because they're not wrapped up neatly.
>>
>>54855294
That's normal, don't be a pussy.

You can't. It's literally your duty to get in there now. If you walk away now, the kingdom of heaven will be forever closed to you.

>>54855294
IT veteran here.

That's actually pretty tidy. And it looks like everything is labeled.

Don't act like you'll make the place any better

Did you negotiate your salary at least to see what you could earn?

I'd kill you for that job. Hard to find IT jobs no adays since these Indian fucks keep stealing our jobs

holy shit

There's labels, stop being a little bitch.

>>54855294
You can spend all your autistic weekend making it look pretty so no one cares and it runs the same.

>get first IT job out of college
>no previous IT staff
>left with an even bigger mess than the one in OP's pic
>no labels
>no documentation
>no numbered ports
>switches literally hanging by two stripped screws about to fall off

I spent 3 months re-doing all the cabling, buying a new rack, tracking down which cables went where and documenting them. And I didn't fucking complain.

Maybe that's why most modern college students are "unemployed" and "can't find a job".
>>
If you think that's bad
I got some bad news for you,
the datacenter I work for is as, or worst.
The only cable porn you'll find are in PoPs, since other compagnies rent racks, you want to look nice.

Source: I make my PoP installation supaclean, but I ceiling-tiewrap shit everywhere in our datacenter.

I say take it and stay for at least a year. Try to fix it, if you can't at least you can add experience to your CV

>implying you have little to none experience.

No way that's an ISP...Mobile carrier maybe? I'd expect them to do better if they do any real data services at all.

Also get with the times, SDN is the future.

>>54855875
You can just draw on them with the photo gallery app.

Looks pretty good, but try to get that stuff off the floor before someone trips on it. You can spend a weekend tidying it so it looks better for a few months.

>Not taking pictures regularly for documentation purposes

How does /g/ even stay employed? Yeah there will be security to get inside - you can bet your ass you are allowed to take a picture of your own fucking shit.

Pictures have saved my ass on more than one occasion when I've been reliant on remote assistance from the NOC. Maybe ya'll just live down the block from your colos - that shit is a god send if it is out of state.

I work at a super-paranoid HIPAA-governed place and no one gives a shit about cameras near computers. They're not going to magically get the data from the disks. If I started sticking my phone in file cabinets, then they'd take notice.
