Thinking about buying a hp proliant g8 microserver to replace my Synology ds214+. I mainly would use it as a plex media server + file server. Thoughts?
they are not strong for decoding unless you get a compatible videocard to fit into it's expansion slot.
you can also upgrade to an unsupported faster cpu.
both have their disadvantages depending what you want to do with the server.
I have one, they are pretty good for what you want. Make sure you install windows server on it if you want to take full advantage of the hardware raid
