not in the form of the thread or really a reply at all but for those with not a shit ton of money, get the AKG K612 Pro.
For the money, (can be fount for 130-160) they are extremly balanced, detailed, and comfortable. Compared to the K7xx, i would say they have smoother and more accurate trebble, albiet without the bass boost of the K7XX. Now that I have tried both, I probably wouldn't have bought the K7XX and just stuck with the K612

Possible if your software supports choosing the audio output device. For example you can set Foobar2000 to output to any chosen audio device without touching the system default. This way two devices are playing at the same time.

I changed my method of A/B. Using the O2 or Violectric V100 with 3.5mm switchbox was flawed. I can obviously hear one of the amps sound different.

Now both DACs are now connected to one amp and I don't know the difference. Both are 24bit and 192000Hz.

I wonder what's the difference if you compare a basic ODAC, Modi 2 Uber or a HiFime 9018 against a Schiit Yggdrasil. But only if you have a Sescom switch box. Anyone know?
>>
>>54812589
Even on the Amazon page it says they're designed to be used with an amp system.
So anyone else got any experience with this? will an iPhone 6 be fine to drive these?
>>
>>54815753
The DAC on most computers now are as good as stand-alone DAC which cost much much more. Amps are all placebo: there's no sound/quality difference between a 65$ Fiio E10K and a 200$ Modi stack. High bitrates are pointless: 24 bit 44.1 kHz is ok for everything, except for SACD and vynil rips.
>>
>>54815789
>96.0 dB SPL/mW
Yes, your phone will drive them. Very easily.
>>
Anyone got recommendations for aftermarket pads for the ATH-A900x's?
>>
1) Sennheiser HD600 is the best out-of-the-box open headphone in production now. The reason why its cost hasn't gone down since the 90's is because noone has been able to do anything better for that price since then. Cheaper and equally viable alternatives to the HD600 are both the Beyerdynamics DT880 600 Ohm (extra emphasis on bass and upper treble) and AKG K702/Q701 (extra emphasis on mid-highs). Every other open headphone is either expensive placebo or simply can't reach the level of the afore-mentioned headphones.
2) Sony MDR 7506/V6 has been the best closed headphone since the 80's and it hasn't been beaten by anything else so far. Both Audio Technica M40X, Beyerdynamics DT770 80 Ohm and AKG K550/553 are also good solutions, but they're not as balanced as the Sony.
>>
>>54812528
>you don't want the 32 ohm model because they're shit.
I will never get why people think this.

>>54815195
It's alright. Build is not great, and there are plenty of competitors. Why that one in particular?

>>54815789
The voltage sensitivity is lowered, but this higher impedance actually makes it less demanding a load. Either way, the various iPhones have a fairly decent electronics section, with a decently powerful output.

They're two sexy looking headphones but the one's you're actually looking for are the k712.

I like to think of them as the 'listenable 702'
>>
My monoprice headphones were probably the best audio investment I ever made. Honestly, I expected the cheap plastic to break within a few months, but it never actually happened. I liked them so much I got the velour earpads. I think it's been 3 years already and they are still fine. If they ever do break, I can just buy another pair. Even if I have to buy several pairs of them it would still be cheaper than 1 pair of audiophile snakeoil headphones.

I'd rate K612 above K712 any day. K712 is awful imo and not close to the HD 800 sound wise. I own the HD 800 if you think it matters here. Yes Modi 2 Uber.

My PC is this and sound cards don't fit. But I am thinking about the Strix GTX1080 one day. That GPU is a bit smaller in size I think.
How would coaxial digital/optical work connected to my motherboard? Is there like another way?
>>
>>54816792
The 702's are great but too flat for actually enjoying music, the 612's are an even worse version ofthem.

The 712's are much more comfortable and more enjoyable to listen to. They're still incredibly detailed but they're a touch smoother.

612's and 702's might be better for creating music but they're definitely worse for listening.

Could someone here explain to me the point of open headphones? I was looking around on the internet for explanations of the differences between open and closed headphones and if I have understood this correctly, open headphones leak sound but have a better soundstage, while closed headphones don't leak sound and have an inferior soundstage. Now isn't the point of headphones to have the sound to yourself? If your headphones leak the sound, meaning that you only can use them in your home anyways, why not go for speakers which have the best possible soundstage?
>>
>>54818560
closed headphones also leak sound and get hot because of the enclosure. Open headphones only leak a lot of sound if you're deaf and turn it up all the way or using grados
>>
>>54818585
Let's say you sit on a train and listen to music on normal volume, how far would you hear the sound with open headphones? Seat Neighbour, Next Row, not at all?
>>
>>54818585
Not him but my open headphones get just as hot as my closed ones. ;_;
>>
>>54818682
normal volume differs per person. With phase cancellation of the train noises and people talking etc that surrounding sound would override the music you're trying to listen to, making you have to turn it up more and it leaking more.
>>
>>54818560
>If your headphones leak the sound, meaning that you only can use them in your home anyways, why not go for speakers which have the best possible soundstage?
you can still keep the music to yourself if there aren't people in the same room
and with speakers, you also have to take your neighbours into account on high volume, especially if you live in an apartment

$90 HiFime 9018 > $42 HiFime ES9023

Testing everything with a Sescom switchbox upset me a bit. Everything I own and I mean DACs, onboard audio and StarTech ICUSBAUDIO2D sounds about the same when I connect them up to the Stax amp.

My old FiiO E10 with WM8740 DAC upsets me a little bit even though they're measured on Nwavguy's blog. I read the E10's "Subjective Sound Quality" and "Tech Comments" in his blog and it doesn't mention anything what I heard. I was testing the DACs I own to a Sescom A/B switchbox connected to a Stax SRS-2170 amp.

I tried my Pifi DAC+ with PCM5122 DAC chip same identical chip as FiiO E10K's PCM5102 chip. I like it. I think whoever recommends the E10K. I recommend them too. I'm still keeping my main DAC because it has the same chip found on the Sennheiser HE-1. I will try my other headphones later tonight. I wasted a few hours A/B'ing. I have to go.

Not him but i'm the original 712 guy, I don't usually use an eq besides adding a little bass and I don't think i'm going to do that with these. I imagine pairing them with an amp that 'adds' flavor might make them worse but my o2 is as neutral a it gets and the combination sounds great.

The way I see it is that they have 95% of the detail and crispness of the 702's but they sound a bit more fun for music and games whilst still sounding very clean. They're also more comfortable and better looking imo. The prices on amazon for example are way too high, I paid a lot less for mine brand new from ebay.

The 702's are great but I even compared them to some 650's I tried and they sound much better for actually listening to music, same as the 712's. Graphs don't always mean something actually sounds 'better'

Surprisingly decent for what it is. Obviously there are better products but for something that's so common, mass-produced and included when you buy their products, I think Apple did a great job setting the bar. It's a bit pricey if you're just buying it though.

>The 702's are great but I even compared them to some 650's I tried and they sound much better for actually listening to music, same as the 712's. Graphs don't always mean something actually sounds 'better'
Looking at graphs, the K712 seems like a X2 with uneven mids and irruegular treble. This said, I can't understand the connection you made between a good graph and the K702 being good only for mastering and not listening to music. K702 doesn't measure as good as other headphones to begin with, even though its measurements differ quite a lot to say the truth. What you say about graphs not being the most important part in the evaluation of a headphone is true, infact that mostly relies on one's tastes and favourite tonal signature. I love my K702 and it does everything better than the (two) X2 I previously had, even though the K702 was 100€ cheaper, but that's because after trying the K702 out I discovered that a warm/bassy sound signature wasn't the kind of thing I was looking for. The fact that you prefer the K712 or even the HD650 over the K702 simply means that you prefer a bassy/dark sound signature.
>>
>>54839414
if you can afford to buy the apple product they came with you can afford to spend the 50 bucks for some decent earbuds. Don't buy them if you would buy them separately.
>>
>>54839580
>prefer a bassy/dark sound
Or maybe he just doesn't like brightness.

>>
>>54839557
>>54839620
The thing is, wearing arc headphones for a long time with glasses on tends to hurt a bit, so I was looking to buy some in-ear decent earphones without having to pay too much
>>
>>54839751
if you are actively looking for earbuds to buy why the hell did you even think of apple?
What you should get as always depends on your needs. If you like bass and are willing to spend 50$ I could recommend the Sennheiser cx300 II. They also come with a little pouch which I find extremely useful.
>>
>>54839847
Because in a local store they sell earpods for 20 €, which seemed a good price to me since I tend to carry earphones around, and they tend to wear easily.
>>
>>54839580
I do actually prefer a bright sound if anything, it's just that the 712's bass is a touch stronger and smoother smoother, also the appearance+comfort override the 702's.

I'm prepared to lose that tiny bit of clarity in order to have a 'complete' headphone in my eyes. I really do love the look of the black parts on the 712's and 7xx etc compared to the blue and silver look of the 702.
