hey /g/
maybe not the right place for this, but maybe it is.
i'm trying to figure out how to solve for a system of equations
with 2 variables on my ti-84 plus c silver. but not just regular
linear equations, but equations that may include x^2 or y^2.
of course, i know how to do this by hand, but for the sake
of test and time purposes, i would like to know how to do
this on my calculator. i've googled and googled, but came up short.

What do you mean by "solving"? These implicit equations usually have infinitely many solutions.
E.g. x^2 + y^2 = 1
Every point on the unit circle is a valid solution.

he wants to know how to use a calculator
>>54805299
for example,
x=22y
4=12.7y + 16.1y^2
solving these two equations will give you a value for both x and y.

see what >>54805325 said.
this is why.
this is a board on technology, isn't it?
>>54805376
if by "technology" you mean "memes" then yes it is indeed

For nonlinear systems, I don't think the ti-84 plus has a built in solver. In two variables you can plot one variable as a function of the other and find intersections.

you can install programs on these calculators, correct?
would this be a program someone would have made?

I don't know if someone has made a program to do this for the ti-84, but you can always do it yourself in ti-basic or z80 assembly :^) Maybe ask someone here >>54806107
It's a lot easier to just graph the equations and find their intersections, though.
