I wanted to get a proper laptop to replace my netbook, and I've been thinking about getting a Thinkpad, but I'm in a tight budget.

An X220 with decent CPU, 8 GB RAM, and the IPS display goes for ~$250. That + a cheap SSD will give you a great machine for <$350.
T4__'s, depending on your netbook specs, maybe earlier ibm/lenovo stuff like T60/T61
"Out there" IBM/Lenovo stuff would work good too, maybe a Z61 or a G series workstation.

T420 or X220 if you want netbook size. Only slightly slower than current gen systems, will last forever, only few hundred nowadays.
