got a 2tb seagate external hard drive (1d7ap2-500)
one day my computer stopped recognizing it
it's been a few weeks now and i can't even reformat it or anything
opening seatools causes it to hang forever on the opening window where it says it's searching for compatible drives
is it totally fucked or can this be fixed?

Your mistake was buying a Seagate HDD, noob

Run a SMART extended test? Try checking on Linux if necessary.
Chances are that it is fucked though. All HDD have a chance to fail, use redundant storage (=multiple drives - RAID+backup, cloud setup, whatever) to deal with this.

You can buy brand x or (arguably better) enterprise variant y of some HDD - but does not really make your data secure.
Have redundancy / backups. That's the only way. Even companies who spend a billion on their data center need to do it. They too can't really buy individual drives that don't fail. It's just not an option.
