My cellphone battery refuses to hold a charge, but I need to communicate with my employer, who has only used phone calls and texts in the past. What's the best online SMS platform to use while I wait on a new battery? I'm running Linux Mint 13 on an old-as-shit laptop, if that matters.

your carrier should have a websms page

Neat, looking into it now. I'm using Verizon.

Email client of your choice. As far as I know, all carriers provide email to text bridges where you can email to personscell#@carrier'sbridge (ie if you want to text someone who has Verizon service you use [email protected]). You can also text to email addresses and it's considered the same as a regular text message.

What if I don't know the carrier of the phone number I need to reach? Do I just spam all likely domains?

Verizon usually has a @verizonmail or @verizonsms. It's usually the number@verizondomain and anyone can SMS it.

Right, but what if the person I'm wanting to text isn't using Verizon? Do I just send messages to [their number]@vtext.com, [their number]@tmomail.com, etc., until one of them goes through? Or is there a better way?
