>>
Are there any that have decent DACs in them? It's p much the only reason I've stayed with an iPhone for so long (can't find a phone with a good audio output).
>>
I use a sandisk jam. I can't use my phone because we are not allowed cameras where I work.

They're called mobile phones now.
>>
Cowon X9, been using it for about 3 years and a bit.
>>
I got a FiiO X1 on sale and love it, though the battery life is a bit low for a DAP. (Around two days of straight music playback)
>>
I use a fiio dap with noble CIEMs. Lush it is.
>>
There's reasons for using mp3 players.

Maybe you need a portable player that can power your cans and don't want to use an amp. (Hopefully somewhere inside and you don't walkaroundeating hd600s or something). Maybe you just want better audio quality.

Or the reason I use them and I imagine the reason most people who use them have one is I dont want to workout or do any physical Labour with a 500+ bux heavy phone in my pocket. Instead I have a SanDisk clip+ (also a jam don't get one >slightly better design >Everything else worse >no rock box >headphone jack loose in less than a month)

Mp3 players are lighter and generally more disposable than your phone that's why they're worth owning for a lot of people.

I used to take old Sandisk Sansa player with me for running, but the poor thing is beaten to death: one earphone doesnt work unless you press it near jack and battery door is gone so the battery is kinda wonky and it turns off due to poor contact.

Smartphone is kinda unwieldy for this though.

Yeah, this one. Easier to change track, or pause when someone speaks to me. Or if im crossing the road, gotta pause listen for traffic etc.

I spent 150€ on a mp3 player with QVGA video just before smartphones became popular.

I had a Clip Zip but the headphone input became too loose to continue using. Replaced it a Chinese player by the company AGPTeK/Ruizu because the new gen of Clips are awful. Good quality little player and is better for music than my phone. The market for these is dwindling unless you want to spend a few hundred on a high end player, but there are a couple companies still putting good stuff out.
>>
>>54764583
I do. I've been using an 8 gigs Creative Zen Mozaic for the past 8 years. Sadly it died just a couple weeks ago. Survived two encounters with water, one of them being a full cycle in the washing machine, three years ago. Its screen was about 80% dead by the end of last year, but it still played music very nicely; I learned the order of the songs on it, so it wasn't a problem to me, even if all I could see were the first three characters of the song title.
Now I'm using a 160 gigs iPod classic. Chose it because I was in desperate need of more space, and because the other model - a Sony player with expandable memory - was not in stock at that moment.
>>
>>54764583

Do you even lift?
>>
>>54773504
I've had four other players before the Mozaic. First was a 256mb mp3 player with usb, that died a couple years later. Next, I had a 2 gigs Sandisk Sansa m250 music player, that still works. I had a 4 gigs mp4 player that broke after just one month.
Then I got the Mozaic mp4 player. I received another 4 gigs no-name brand mp4 player, which I didn't really liked, so it's pretty much collecting dust. Now I'm using the iPod, but I'm also using an 8 gigs Sony waterproof mp3 player for when I'm swimming, jogging or cycling.
I'm sort of a music enthusiast, you see.

SE535 has too little low frequencies (bass). I have read that this is due to a dynamic resistance (impedance) of some sort. Using a 'boost' switch on my amp fixes the problem and now I can actually hear the lows.

I used to use a Sansa Clip+ but I gave up on it because it doesn't play all of my video game formats; it plays some of them with Rockbox, but not the Playstation ones, and it's annoying to switch between different modes (some of these formats have multiple tracks in each file and if you just hit next it will skip to the next file, so you need to go into settings and change the functionality of the next button when you listen to those, then change it back when you're done).

Now I just use my phone, since I carry it around on my person at all times anyway. The new Foobar2000 for Android is great, plays all the chiptune formats I've thrown at it perfectly even though they aren't even listed in the compatible formats (was pleasantly surprised). My only complaint is the fucking album screen is showing the same album several times because it's breaking it down by artist. I want to see the fucking albums, I don't want to hunt around the same album icon 5 times to find the track I want to listen to! If anyone knows the devs, tell them to fix this garbage.

Nah, an mp3 player can't keep up with streaming players like Spotify.

Compared to individually seeking out songs, downloading them, placing them in the correct folders, while keeping proper categorization, it's almost a no-brainer that mp3 is dying or already dead.

The 535's are stupidly sensitive, so they can actually hear how your DAP actually sounds. A lot of DAP's tend to roll off lower frequencies and the SE535 picks that up.

Let's test it out. There is nothing of worth in this post except pointing out your childish behavior. The only thing in the next post will be "It almost hurts to be right so often." If you respond to both you prove to be a child with a need to have the last word.

The Sandisk Clip Sport plus a 32GB MicroSD card is solid. Note that it doesn't support larger microSDXC cards, but 40GB is a lot of music, especially in such a small size.

>>
>>54787905
I use a dumb phone as an mp3 player. A dedicated device isn't worth it when I can have an sd card with gigabytes of mp3s. The battery also never runs out.

Unless the mp3 player is tiny, that has some use when working out,
>>
>>54787968
>A dedicated device isn't worth it when I can have an sd card with gigabytes of mp3s
Yeah because there are no PMPs capable of high capacity internal storage nor are there any with microSD card slots.
>>
My dream player would be:
>aluminium body, clicky buttons (like ipod nano)
>stick shaped
>small b/w display
>rockbox-tier firmware
>external storage support

Sadly, with all available mp3-players you only get to pick 2 from
>good hardware
>good software
>external storage

Is a Plenue 1 or Plenue S worth buying or no? I have a cowon device and enjoy it, but it's been dying on me.

I have no idea which PMPs are the best/most useful nowadays.
>>

>He probably wants a simple mp3 has no need for video or pictures just a good device for only music without gimmicks
What about album art?

>it also save on battery
You do realize that there are DAPs with 50-100 hour batteries that have color displays? If it saves any battery it is negligible at best.
>>
>>54788480
Plenue S if you have the money or Plenue D if want smaller form factor and saving some money.

Your reason of wanting a b/w display is because of the Sansa clip that did not have a b/w display and saving battery power which isn't really saving any power. . .

Ipods can even use 1tb msata ssd´s albeit due to the moddery involved its a trial and error thing and they may consume more battery juice. Theres also an absolute limit in number of library items because they have 64mb of ram.

Plenue S and 1 aren't such great players, at least from the sound quality perspective.
Astell&Kern stuff has earned a rep as an offensively overpriced steaming pile of crap (they are), the AK 320 does not look that bad.

I don't really use one when I am out. I mostly use my old Moto G (1st gen) with the 32GB micro sd as my portable player on the go which I use when playing in my car.

For home, I use iBasso DX50 as my portable music player which is connect to my speaker in my room when I just want to listen to music.

Since you still haven't specified I am left to assume you are comparing it to the AK320 since you mentioned it in >>54791128

Compared the Plenue S it is notably worse at load. It is more comparable to the P1, even though twice the THD and significantly more expensive.
>>
>>54791767
I should be a little more careful when trying to recall figures.
The comparison is with iPhones, Fiio players, LG V10 and G5 module, AK players.

The iPhone's noise floor is higher than it seems, due to quirks about iOS handles volume. LG phones have load sensing circuits.

>>54802581

How? The size would still be limited.
>>
>>54802787

By replacing the current battery with a higher capacity one.
>>
>>54802827
Yes but it'd still have to fit the case. With how battery tech has been stagnating in the past decade the increase will be small, probably negligible.
>>
>>54802854
>Yes but it'd still have to fit the case
No fucking shit
>probably negligible
I guess if you consider over 200% the original battery life negligible, then yes.
>>
>>54802933
Also keep in mind this is while keeping everything else stock, if you upgrade from the HDD to solid state you have even more room for batteries.
>>
>>54779515
Got Plenue D, had the C2 and M2. Get it, defo worth it, but the screen lag is fucking annoying. It's getting better with every FW update but still annoying. Everything else is great and physical buttons save it.
>>
>>54764583
I was going to get a Fiio X5 but decided not to. Phone + unlimited data + auto-upload with Google Music is way better than needing to manually move files over to a device that I probably won't always carry with me. Add in LG HBS-1100 for flat balanced armature sound and no wires. I can control music playback and volume from the HBS-1100, which was a major gripe with IEMs not having volume control buttons and/or detachable cables.

Also do you notice any real difference in sound between the two players? Or is it a storage thing for you.
>>
>>54803254
I don't understand. Why would you need to spend 250 dollareedoos on an mp3 player?
>>
>>54803853
I don't hear much difference between the two. It's mostly that the clip+ is more convenient because it's so small and has a clip. But the ipod has much larger storage (although I could stick a massive microSD card into the clip+) so I mainly use that.

Earphones are Xiaomi Piston 2 by the way. There's probably newer and better versions available, but I like these (and they were only €15).
