Graduating CC in a year there are a few students who are actually good at programming, you may get lucky and not have to train a dumbass.

Firstly, Community colleges give more relevant educations than a 4 year university for entry level jobs. As such CC graduates have a higher pay rate right out of college than a 4 year university. However as time goes the 4 year degree will earn more as it unlocks management and senior technical positions.

Also you probably suck at negotiating and he was good. Don't fault him because you are stupid.

In your next life go to a CC first and transfer to get a 4 year degree, it's what I did. My AS cost me about 1 grand and my BS cost me about 15 grand because I only had to do junior and senior year.

I am. The quality of my instruction was superior. The people who teach at community colleges are losers who can't get a real teaching position at a real college.

The notion of someone who barely studied in high school, who graduated high school with a 2.1 GPA, who wasn't even qualified to get into a four year school being considered my equal is offensive.

>>54762770
Hey faggot, if you are smart you use a CC for your first 2 years of college because it is cheaper and it gives you a stepping stone degree in case you feel like taking a break.

Also many of my professors at my university also taught at community colleges.

The first 2 years of a university are usually taught by adjunct professors which are professors who don't even have PhDs and will have the exact same qualifications as some instructors at a CC.
>>

>>
>>54762656
Did you do CS in the hope that you would get a job as a programmer? That's pretty sad.

Programming is like being a mechanic or plumber these days. It's a fairly specialised thing that any retard can do if they try and do the training.

That's nothing, one day you WILL meet someone who got into it completely on the fact that they were the boss's shitty friend. My favorite thing he did was
>kept repeating "managed switch" or "unmanaged switch"
I'm like, we need to do X on the router
>You mean the managed switch
Holy shit nigger this isn't a "managed switch" it's a router
>...That's just another word for managed switch
so fucking bad. The final straw was when he spent over 7 hours at a client whose router died trying to plug in a modem directly to a switch ("managed switch" lol), wasn't working. Called me to get over, brought a router, didn't even config its subnet and just plug it in, everything works. Fucker turns off DHCP because "it is ruining their network", and is THE MOST stingy fuck about any new information (shit tier hippie beliefs out the fucking door) I'm trying to give him

>Look we need a DHCP server and router, we have no nat, you can't configure the switch to do this. Does it make any difference that their box that died says ROUTERBOARD on it?
>He just stares at the monitor pretending I'm not talking being a stingy unapproachable fuck
>wow/10

so now you DO know how to admin a router to turn off the one feature they actually NEED... I secretly turn it back on via wi-fi, he isn't smart enough to go back and check. Client's happy.

The worst part about all this was that night he brainwashed the owner and the next day I got a lecture about being "selfish". I fucking quit on the spot.

You clearly don't understand how expensive some areas are. Houses in this area are basically all subletted for $2k+ per bedroom. The few houses that are actually for sale around here are between 600K and 1.5mil and they are old and falling apart and will require a lot of work/money to maintain

the cost of a 3br house in the "burbs of boston" is about 400K to 1200K

>>
>>54762770
Here's the thing. Unless you're in your countries top 3 universities, there is no fucking reason for you to think yourself superior intellectually than others.

There are people who couldn't give less fucks about high-school and just autopilot through it, but get a wakeup-call between high-school and university/college and start working their ass off.

The only advantage you have over those people is that you have good grades from a reputable school. On the job market, that actually counts. However, if you're in "generic college plz pay tuition" then you're in the same bunch as the community college kids when it comes to the job market.

Usually the people from reputable schools get hired by companies who send recruiters to the universities/colleges. I'm in one of the top 3 unis of my country and 70-80% of my class got hired before they were even out of uni without even trying.

If you're a shit tier pleb going to a shit tier school and have average/below average grades, what the fuck makes you think you're better than a community college student with good grades?

It is fun how diferent it is in America compared to Europe:

In America smart people get accepted to expensive colleges while not so smart people go to public colleges.

In Europe, smart people get accepted in public colleges while not so smart people must pay more to have an education in a private college.

If the government wants to pay part of your education it's because you are potenially good.

I can't understand the American way. You are loosing lots of very intelligent people who may not have enough money to pay for top education.

>I can't understand the American way. You are loosing lots of very intelligent people who may not have enough money to pay for top education.

To be entirely fair, at least in theory the VERY smart people are supposed to be able to get different kinds of stipends(+student loans, of course), so if you're actually a genius, you can get to a top university even if you're poor.
>>
>>54762770
>The people who teach at community colleges are losers who can't get a real teaching position at a real college.

Very ignorant thing to say. The reality is you're better off being taught by an actual professor at a CC in many cases, instead of the Grad Students and unreachable celebrity "professors" you get in many 4 year universities.
>>
>>54762770
You only need high quality instruction if you're an inferior specimen incapable of comprehending knowledge on your own

Ergo, CC is spoonfeeding for lazy geniuses who would rather spend $5k in tuition than do serious independent research, and "proper" uni is for rich retards who can't figure out what gravity is unless an experience instructor babies them through it.
>>
>>54765367
nope. if you're driven and social, you get top university. if you're actually a genius, it doesn't matter unless you're in a shitload of clubs at a proper school. reclusive savant? no grants or loans for you, because there's nothing on paper that bureaucrats are willing to understand and verify that proves that you're worth anything according to their narrow legally defined concept of "worth".

It works like it always has. It's liberal arts education, not trade school, so there's only one kind of "genius" they want enough to give a free ride. A social, passionate man that would take management over trades, not a technical autist that wants to design hardware at NASA.

Going to CC for two years really helped me save a lot of money and when I got my bachelors I didn't have to worry about any debt.

letter me preface this post by saying I am of average intelligence, and I make up for this by being exceptionally lazy.

therefore I did not do well in high school, chiefly due to ignoring homework assignments. As such, and with my financial position, an associates degree from a "totally not a community college but we don't do bachelor's programs" school is my primary option at the moment, because I dont want to have to move, take out loans, or change jobs.

I'm trying to get into their Sonography program because fuck it why not, but supposedly it's competitive and since my transcript is mediocre, I may not get in.

trouble is, their other programs are sparce, I could choose Engineering technology(what even is this, I have never heard of it but apparently it's CAD and other jobs where you are making shit with technology but not actually doing engineering),

Information Technology, which I assume would put me in a position to not get a job that 30,000,000 other Fuckers with that same degree have

Health Information Technology, which apparently is the same shit but even more mindless and pays more.

or take a fucking business degree or some shit, but I won't ask about that on /g/

is IT as barren as I think it is?, should I find another school and just say fuck my job and find another as needed?

The level of scholarship among my CC professors was outstanding, as many of them actually got degrees in things BESIDES teaching. They actually liked what they taught.

Some of us don't have regrets because our experiences were what we made of them. Just because you went to community college in the fucking hills doesn't mean anything.

OP- you got scammed into a teaching job, there are so many job offers at startups for using the latest hipster functional programming langauges and frameworks, and the tip off to these job ads is that they want you to get everyone at the startup 'up to speed' on these latest technologies. So basically they are going to use you to teach people who can barely do fizzbuzz in javascript how to use cutting edge programming techniques. In your case you are going to teach some clueless kids from junior college how to program at CS level, once you do that they will fire you and continue to pay shit wages. Your career will continue to flatline because you havent learned anything new or built anything worthwhile so you will never get a chance to work with people who are at the same level you are. have fun being stuck at dead end coding jobs and always making $60k a year or less

I am studying IT engineering now, did a CC-like program previously (outside of US) and I have to say even though I was good at programming compared to most people in my program, I only had a surface level understanding of the work, as a technician, now halfway through my studies I have learned a lot more about software design and architecture, business concerns and project management. I don't think a fresh graduate in the situation I was would be worth anywhere near 61k (depends on the region though I guess), and I probably wouldn't trust them to make any design choices beyond simple implementation for a project.

Gotta half agree with >>54762701 though, most people in my program were retarded and dropped out between when they figured out computer science isn't funtimes and video games, and linux/c++/data structures classes.

Well I live in Mexico, 1 hour drive to Texas and I have a visa so that work visa thing is a possibility, problem is that if that is somehow not achievable for whatever reason.
I'm toast and wasted more time.

Why does it get harder?
money wise I could cover it completley by myself so there woudln't be any debt.

>work up from dish bitch to Sous Chef in five years
>constant stream of mostly talentless, unmotivated chumps who just want a paycheck
>occasional 19 year old know it all that plagiarizes online recipes and acts like billy badass while ruining everything they touch

The life of a high end chef is essentially competing with ~40000 other people to make $12 an hour. When you get to ~2000 people you're salaried at $35k a year.

Fast food is in every sense the better career option.

Well it does depend on what you choose to go into but the two main reasons for it getting harder to go to school later in life are not remembering certain skills and diminished ability to learn, languages for example are a bitch to learn later in life.

Is it really plagiarism if they're freely available online

Wanting to hang in the big leagues but having no sense of taste or creativity of your own is a mortal sin. Can't trust those people to do anything unsupervised.

>live with parents in northwest georgia
>graduate highschool
>work some shitty warehouse job for $10/hour
>save cash
>buy nice used car for $8k
>went to CC for software engineering
>got a job for $55k/yr as jr java codemonkey
>still live with parents
>blow shit tons of cash
>still manage to save up $35k over 2 years (could've easily save $45k)
>get promoted to $65k/year
>waited until the county auctioned off tax delinquent houses
>check all the potential houses for liens
>several come back clean
>buy house at auction that is worth $120k in small suburb for $25k
>wait one year for grace period to expire
>(for those of you who don't know, the original owner has one year to pay the county the delinquent taxes in full and if they do I get all my money back plus interest so I had nothing to lose)
>buy brand new car for $30k, sell old car for $6k

So I'm 23 now and I own my own house, property, and a brand new car.
Everything I need is a 5 minute drive away and I live in a relatively small town.
Utilities are cheap. My power bill is about $160 a month, water/trash/sewage is all $35 and I spend about $20 a week on gas. Internet is $60 a month from Comcast buy my town is going to get fiber soon so I'm going to give Comcast the middle finger soon.
I have no kids and I have so much excess cash left over at the end of the month that I just toss it all in savings and my 401k. I literally just pay bills, buy food and I spend maybe $50 a week on entertainment. I could lose my job and literally live off my savings comfortably for years.
But I won't let that happen and my boss has told me he personally thinks I'd do great in management but I'd need a bachelor's to even get started so I plan on going back to college and getting a bachelor's which, if I estimate right, should bump me up to $80-95k a year giving me even more excess cash to toss into savings and my 401k.

What liberal shitholes do you people live in?

>CC for software engineering
doubt you can legally call yourself an engineer without doing a real (university) program...
then again every retard brogrammer in the US calls themselves an engineer
>>
>>54779007
"An engineer is a practitioner of engineering, concerned with applying scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical, social and commercial problems."

Which is exactly what I do.
You generally don't need a legal certificate to be an engineer, especially most kinds of software engineering roles.
>>
>>54779068
Alright, seems like you can call yourself an engineer but not a professional engineer. Over here you legally cannot call yourself an engineer without an professional engineering degree but you still get "engineering" positions filled by technicians so I assumed it was the same in the US.
>>
>>54778971
Two million ain't enough to live as a NEET for the rest of your life.

>buy house at auction that is worth $120k in small suburb for $25k

You paid more for your car than your house? Bullshit.

The only software engineering related positions off the top of my head that I can think of that require legal papers to work are positions related to medicine and finance.
Other positions in the field of engineering that require papers would be again in medicine and finance, but also in things like structural engineering and so on. Basically anything where a human life or shit tons of money are at stake.
And even then you don't have to go to college to get them, you can literally just pay the company for the test, take the test, pass and have your certificate sent to you.

You'd be surprised how many people get cushy jobs over here by simply building a portfolio and honing their skills in their free time.

Hint: Employers look for skill and past projects, your education rarely plays a role for positions lower than management, hence the OP. The only difference is you have to seek the information yourself instead of having your professor spoon feed you. I didn't discover this until after I graduated CC but I still plan on getting a bachelor's anyway to please HR and move up the chain.

Hell my cousin became a freelance web developer and all he had was a GED and he is also making bank running his own business playing with meme frameworks.
