Theres a simple explanation for that.
'New' AMD cards are all basicaly rebrands and rehashes of old cards, the same GCN architecture. So optimizations for their newer line up still benefit the old cards.
Nvidia actualy released a new architecture with Maxwell, so optimizations it now makes are for that architecture because it doesn't sell Keppler cards anymore.
So the gap closes over time between older architecture Nvidia cards and older AMD cards.
Feel free to prove I'm wrong by showing me benchmarks of Nvidia cards having significantly lower fps in games now than they did in the past
