Should I go with the Skylake bandwagon or wait for a few months for the go for the Kaby Lake? Is there any difference in performance at all? I'm still using my 2500k, I know it's shit but it managed to get past my needs, definitely time for an upgrade though.
Get a 240/280mm AIO cooler and overclock the 2500k to 4.8ghz or higher.

The difference between Skylake and Kaby Lake is minimal. Intel dropped their tick tock model and Kaby Lake isn't a tick or a tock, just an "optimisation". Your 2500K is fine.

If I wait for Zen/Kaby - prices go up, and a risk of both of them being nothing.
If I buy now I run into risk of missing out on octacore glory for cheap. Like I missed AMD64 by 3 months(no internet at a time) or dualcores by 6 months.

Supposedly the memory controller will die if the voltage is higher than 1.4 for a long period of time. Which is why its ddr3L and ddr4.
