My current motherboard is maxed out on ram, supports max of 4GB. so I thinking about upgrading the motherboard /ram but keep my Phenom II x4 955 cpu and reuse everything else. I found a nice Am3/Am3+ mobo with 32gb max ram support so I could go with 8GB x 4 DDR3-1333. Board supports my current cpu so I think it'll work great.

My AM3 board claimed to only support 8GB, yet I ran 16GB on it just fine for years. I'm sure your current board won't explode if you put more RAM in it.
