Lenovo X140E.jpg
72 KB, 700x579
Unfortunately, I won't go into a whole bunch of details, but I need a small laptop for my new job that more or less fits into these requirements:

- Smaller than 12" (This is the most important bit.)
- Must not be a 2-in-1 or tablet hybrid.
- Can run at least Windows 7 or has potential to upgrade up to Windows 10. (Ugh, I know.)
- Something > 100GB internal storage.
- Decent processor, mostly for productivity.

My only personal requirement is that it has the potential to upgrade the internal memory, but that's not a huge deal.

I think I found what I was looking for in the Lenovo X140E, but I know there's other options out there.

Please be kind /g/, any help would be greatly appreciated!

TL;DR - I'm really just looking for a "netbook" for work that isn't a tablet hybrid or a Chromebook.
>>

What's wrong with a macbook? Why do you immediately jump to some chinese knockoff instead of going with the market leader?
>>
Macbook Air 11". If you want one cheap, get a ~2011-2013 model used.
>>
>>54733291
You literally describe a MBA.

I was going to suggest a Dell 11.6" 2-in-1 it comes with a nice processor, good screen which happens to be touch but you don't have to use it. But your "requirements" make it difficult to suggest anything that doesn't come with gimped battery life.
>>
ThinkPad X260. It's a 12.5" though.
>>
>>54733291
The Dell XPS 13 is small as some 11" laptops i've seen. Might be a reasonable solution.
>>

>- Smaller than 12" (This is the most important bit.)
You could go for an oldschool, 4:3 12" laptop, with sensible bezels, like the X61. That thing seriously is a quarter smaller than its "same" 12" X220 and upwards cousin.

and the CPU is still quite workable for most productivity tasks.

but without any specifics, ti gets really hard to help you.

This.

The revived VAIO has an 11.6 in laptop with i7 6500U.
>>
>>54733291
Maybe a cheap Chromebook (like a Acer C720) with a 128GB NGFF SSD? You can install Win10, but you need to flash custom BIOS first.
>>
>>54734929
Nah, those are all 13"
>>
>>54735241
why does it need to be smaller than 12"?
>>
>>54735241
My mistake only VAIO JP has it listed.
>>
>>54733876
This. Its the same size with 12" surface pro.

Thanks for all the input guys, the job involves a lot of transitional work between field and office - so the smaller the laptop, the better.

I've opted for a laptop that runs on Windows as they tend to be infinitely less expensive than MacBooks, for the SOLE REASON of there being a high possibility of the laptop being damaged or destroyed in case things got rough, hence why I'd also like to avoid anything with a touchscreen, seeing as if that broke it may cause a new set problems. A MacBook would be a costly investment to end up having to repair or completely replace...

I've considered older netbooks, so I'll have to look around as well. Regardless, though, I am grateful for all the suggestions, and would still be open to any more - thanks again for the help.

Windows on macbooks is far from perfect.
>>
>>54737516
IMHO you should spend your money in the right way. An 11" Macbook Air or a Dell XPS 13 (and again: a 13" display into a 11" chassis) may be expensive, but they're very tough and reliable machines. Their cost is totally worth.

If you pick a traditional netbook with Pentium (or even worse Atom) CPUs, you could easly regret

This is honestly the ONLY viable option, in the US anyway. Panasonic has some bitching business laptops in japan.

Wrong
Get a real Thinkpad, like an X220 or X230
>>
>>54734624
I miss non-widescreen laptops.

Even 16:10 is better than this shit we have now.
>>
>>54737516
Thinkpads (x220 or x230 for example) are sturdy as fuck AND cheap
>>
>>54733291
>Smaller than 12"
Is 12.5 okay?

Reason is for Lenovo at least anything below that is poorly made flimsy garbage, a huge step below the X260 for example (or X220 if you want something cheaper yet even sturdier)
>>
Isn't there some kind of Apple accidental damage warranty you could abuse?

Thinkpad

>cheap (we're talking ~$200 or less for even an i5 model)
>made to be upgradeable, easily swappable parts
>so many spare parts available
>will survive a housefire
>>
>>54738220
>>54738191
>>54738158

whats the battery life like on one of those?
>>
>>54739100
My X230 gets like 7 hours with the 9-cell battery on full screen brightness

You can also get a slice battery that goes on the bottom of the laptop to make it last even longer, in exchange for being thicker

damn.. don't know weather to wait till my laptop shits itself before I buy something I don't need or go ahead and buy a x230 now. the only thing that slows mine down right now is heavy ass web pages, what the hell happened to the web?

I have a t4400 laptop, battery is long gone, use it mostly in the house never get out with it. id like to think that if i had a laptop with battery id use it more outside, wishful thinking lol.
>>
Don't buy a Thinkpad t440 or t450 they are garbage
>>
I say a thinkpad x200 or x201. Those are compfy as fuck.

What about like an ASUS X205TA?

Question! Where can one purchase an X220 or similar in new condition? Is it worth trusting refurbished models? Their prices on Newegg are pretty good...
