... that CPU is overkill then...
>>
>>54729466
oh
ight then
just some suggestions here, if this is a home server, you wont need that SSD, boot time wont be an issue, because that fucker will likely be on 24/7
also, get another fan for the HDD rack
>>
>>54729466

What ISPs even allow you to run home servers these days?
>>
>>54729540
As long as you don't saturate your upload all the time by running a public FTP server you'll be fine.
>>
>>54729516
I prefer having the 4 3.5" drive bays available for storage only.
Are 4 fans not enough?

>>54729540
Server doesn't mean public facing.
>>
>>54729482
you're right, but he doesn't need either CPU. a home server isn't going to be handling that much traffic in the first place.

there really aren't that many motherboards designed for home server needs (allowing for very very low power CPUs, but offering lots of IO ports), but you could have gotten an LGA 1150 socket CPU for ~$50 that would have been sufficient for <10 users remotely accessing the machine for files and whatnot.

If you're going to use it to do some informal scientific stuff (playing around with data or whatever), you'll want to add more RAM soon, but otherwise this is a fine setup. or if you were using it as an HTPC kind of thing (basically connecting it to your TV and having it push the video to that).

otherwise you spent wayyyyy too much on the CPU.

i would also argue that unless you're putting the case in some suboptimal place, you probably don't need the extra fans. servers run warm and need extra cooling because they're collocated with a thousand other racks. a home server running haswell won't generate so much heat that you need to take special measures to cool it (special in this case is as little as buying 2 fans).

that being said, fans are hardly expensive, especially compared to an overkill CPU...
>>
>>54729482
>>54729612
CPU is for (primarily) video encoding.
>>
>>54729540
basically all of them. the ISP doesn't care what you upload as long as it's not illegal and it doesn't turn into a huge amount of the capacity they have for that area.

the only issue you might face is dynamic ip address assignment and your address changing, but there are ways of dealing with that.

and all that's to say nothing of the fact that "home server" might just mean a box with lots of files centrally located in the house (meaning only accessed from within the local network).

If it fails to meet expectations not sure what I will do, maybe finally buck up and get a soldering iron to fix my G100s myself.

i needed something that closes, my job involves lots of metal chips and oil, i also dont want to lose a stylus

honestly, all i needed from the casio is the ability to do basic math, take notes, follow a calendar and see the time

i cant use my phone, i cant use a laptop, notepads would get ruined by oil, pens get stolen all the time

the organizer is simply the best choice for getting what i need done, and keeping my boss from firing me for "corporate espionage"
im not a hipster, i just wanted something that works

get the fuck out

personally would have gone with the Canon f4 version for a similar price, still, f2.8 is pretty decent and it'd be a hell of a lens on a full frame camera

>>54730825

Segate 3tb models were particularly bad but otherwise they're not bad as far as harddrive manufacturers go

the Backblaze tests only usually compare a few select models and of the manufacturers that get huge failure rates it's almost always one particular model with a high failure rate rather than the drives being bad across the board

(for instance the pics that show WD as being bad exclusively use WD Red drives)
