Lost interests in games, halfway finished The last of Us and the new Uncharted and Doom looks fun, but not enough will to get back into games, even casual games on phone. Want to get into Game of Thrones, but don't I can't binge watch anything for shit.

Last of Us and Uncharted are not great games to rekindle your love with the medium. Doom on the other hand is amazing and will make you feel like your 13 again

As far as TV goes, just gotta force yourself to sit down and watch. I sometimes gotta do the same thing, but when I do force myself to watch I get engrossed esp with good shit like GoT.

As far as the narcissist goes, i'm not sure I got my own house with my wife and it's big enough where if we wan't privacy we can have it. She fucks off upstairs to the 4th bedroom and I fuck off to the basement.

>screen tearing
disable your compositing window manager. Then, run
mplayer -vo xv <video filename>
or use the XV output of VLC.

>cant get my CRT to run at 2048x1536@75Hz in linux as well
$ xrandr --newmode "2048x1536_75.00"  339.00  2048 2208 2432 2816  1536 1539 1543 1606 -hsync +vsync

then, check which output your CRT is:
$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 connected 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 518mm x 324mm
1920x1200 59.95*+
1920x1080 60.00
<...>
800x600 60.32
640x480 59.94
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-D-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Your listing may use different names, this is what the proprietary nvidia drivers call the outputs. In my case my only PC CRT is currently sitting on the floor unused, so I don't have it connected, but imagine that the LCD I've got is actually a CRT. It's on 'DVI-I-1'.
You have created a new mode called "2048x1536_75.00" (I got this video modeline by typing 'cvt 2048 1536 75'), so now you have to add it to that output (DVI-I-1).
$ xrandr --addmode DVI-I-1 2048x1536_75.00

Note that this might not work with some graphics drivers, so you'd have to add the modeline in xorg.conf instead. Worked with nouveau drivers and the intel i950 drivers.
Finally, switch to that mode:
xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --mode 2048x1536_75.00

You can also switch to the mode via GUI if you prefer.

Beyond a certain point you're just going to decrease TVL (horizontal detail) while getting increasingly imperceptibly different results. 70-75hz is a sweet spot (for me and my tastes, at least). If you like higher, go ahead, though. Especially if you can't tell a difference in quality at those rates.

I'm not too clear on your issue, but if you get a chance to read this, whenever I'm having video output issues I always remove the gpu, and then reboot just using the onboard video (usually a blue 'vga' or white 'dvi' plug) that usually works. Another thing is to go into your BIOS (motherboard OS) and try to find an option under PCI that reads something like "use onboard video if no adapter exists" meaning it will use the onboard graphics processor if the gpu isn't working correctly. but anyways reboot using the onboard video connection and try to install the right drivers for your gpu. good luck.

First time? Probably linuxmint or something like that.

Personally, I hopped from Mint to Debian Sid (unstable) because the 'rolling release' concept appealed to me, and it's kinda tricky upgrading from one release of mint to the next.

If you go with Mint, be sure you get a 'long term support' version (I think 17.3 is based on long-term support Ubuntu 'Trusty', so it's gonna be LTS).

Much like earthbound and other old JRPGs, relatively common records are being sold for ludicrous amounts of money. I got lucky by being gifted a lot of my dad's old collection (he never got rid of his stuff).

It's understandable though, and if I don't have vinyl I always look for FLAC or a really cheap CD.

Let me stop you right there.
Use Firefox.
Apart from being proprietary (yes, chromium is open source, but chrome is not), it has a less flexible extension model and it's really hard to get features added even if you write them yourself. They just don't like accepting new things (such as APNG support in the Blink engine even though webkit which it forked from supports it and Firefox (gecko) also supports it).

Personally I use seamonkey since I can't stand firefox or chrome from the UI standpoint.

>>54714469
>Uriah Heep?
Never heard of 'em, but I'll give a listen.
Which Procol records did you try? They aren't really a lot like other 'proggy' bands, but their songs vary in quality wildly (and also mean pretty little most of the time). Still, I love 'A Salty Dog' and highly recommend it. It's not a "Rock" type of album for the most part but it's really excellent. "Shine on Brightly" is pretty awesome too.

I mainly like Procol Harum for the organ playing, I think. But "Wreck of the Hesperus" is great even without one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MnQTFa7PHI

Overall they're a lot like the Eagles in that they had some great ideas but produced a mixed bag. Think the Beatles' White Album, too.

Favorite Tull album?
Think mine's "Thick as a Brick", but I've yet to listen to "Songs from the Wood" and a couple really well-regarded ones.
>>
>>54714562

Damn, I can't find the first Procol album anywhere. Just gotta keep looking, I guess (I really only buy from local stores).

Exotic Birds and Fruit is also really good, but suffers from mediocre mastering on the vinyl. The digital remaster is really good. It's probably my favorite album as a whole.

Only tested it with the MATE desktop, but it might work in cinnamon alright. No harm in trying!

The appearance preferences menu will pick up on its existance if you make a directory in your home dir called '.themes' and put the directories inside my tarballs' "themes" directory there (the dirs will be called "Ambiance - 10.04" and "Radiance - 10.04").
Then you'll want to install the icon packages the same way, with a directory under your home dir called '.icons'.
If that doesn't work, put 'em in /usr/share/themes and /usr/share/icons.

>>54714871

If the drivers are the same on elementary and mint, it should work with both the same as they both run linux with an X server. What went wrong in mint?

It's not quite as good as CRT, but it is close enough to be worth it.

The real downside with the BenQ and similar other products is that the color accuracy is genuinely shit.

Great for games, fine for general use/movies, shit for photography.

>yo is that a modmic 4.0?
Yes. It's good, but I'm kind of wishing I had bought something like a blue snowball instead, because the cables are annoying, mostly because the mic cable has to go to the back of my computer and my headphone cable goes to my headphone amp.
>>
>>54719355
yeah the extra cable is the reason i haven't bought it yet t-b-h seems pretty annoying especially since my headphones has a coiled cable just not sure if it will be more annoying then having to have a dildo mic on my desk though :/

Gonna ask how you were setting the video mode. Xrandr? or the GUI?

Through the GUI it probably was setting up an XML file (monitors.xml) for persistence between logins.

And yeah, if you'll spend 600 EUR on a computer, you can afford a handful more on a card reader.
