OpenGL is a mess, but it's actually really fast. It's always been faster than Direct3D. It's the typical FOSS story, really: superior tech bogged down by a clunky interface.
And Vulkan makes things even better.
So this guy actually knows his stuff? He calls himself a futurist and his Youtube channel is filled with 3D printers, so I have to admit I'm skeptical.
