i would recommend the apple care+ thing. i think it might be really worth it because it seems like shes going to be using it for a while. with the apple care+ thing she wont be bothering you so much, because she can always take it to the store.
one thing i might add is that in august/september they always have their back to school promotion. so if possible, you might want to wait until then. sometimes they knock off some dollars off of the macbooks, sometimes they add in a free gift card with purchase.

Despite being fully aware of the Macbook's flaws, it has an almost magnetic desirability that is hard to grasp unless you've seen one in person.
