Why would you use anything Unity outside of Unity?
Xfce has its owe indicators:
http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-indicator-plugin

You can use GUI or Terminal to configure the panel like you want:

You can get it in MATE's Mutiny panel set up.
But why would you change if you like Unity?

I switched from MATE to Unity and I really like it. Managing windows feels a lot easier on Unity, especially the double-click on the launcher to have the windows of a specific application spread.
>>
>>54651375
Also. you will have to deal without Flatabulous on MATE (but Arc Darker is pretty nice also)

Btw, which Icon theme is that? Paper?

>>54651465
Thanks. My issue with Unity is that sometimes applications minimize to the hidden unity panel instead of to the dock I'm using and it's driving me nuts. I'll check out MATE.

Also yes, it's the Paper icon theme.
>>
Windows 10

I demand performance from my hardware and running exe files.
>>
>>54651428
I dont need that feature

But the thing with KDE is that their components are all tied in, hardly modular.

With lxde or xfce, at least their components are reusable in tiling wms. Like, I can use the xfce file manager in dwm. Bad example: loading nautilus will turn on some gnome dependencies.

>>54651439
Sure, its all your preference and how balance things based on your use case.

Example:
Gnome with Rhythmbox, my battery rate at 50% lasts for 2 .5 hours
Dwm with CMUS, my battery at 50% lasts for 4.5 hours.
>>
>>54651533
Okay, I was wondering how you made the panel transparent, but this explains everything. I used my MATE install with Plank and it works really well, as you can remove all other panels which control your windows there and be left with only Plank + Top Panel which you can use to display the window menu bars. I haven't tried the global menus myself in conjunction with Plank, but it should be really easy to modify the MATE-Tweak "Mutiny" layout for the panel arrangement to suit your style and then save verything.
