Are coding bootcamps legit? Most jobs seem to require a degree in Computer Science or something related.

Can you really become a Developer with no degree and just self-taught skills?

No, it's a meme

Some have a very high chance of landing you a job after you complete them, but they tend to cost some serious dough. Most likely worth it imo.
>>
Just write code and publish it on github. A portfolio of good code is enough to get noticed

Depends on what job you want. Most jobs that actually REQUIRE a degree involve little to no programming.

If you apply for a position for a real dev position you just have to know your shit, and they won't teach you anything useful at school, so you will be self taught either way.

Boot camps are useless, just do online tutorials and fictional projects in a field you find interesting. Also work on a github portfolio, that can get you hired instantly.

I'm a high school dropout doing 70k as a front-end specialist, fully self-taught. The only 'must read' in my opinion is Clean Code, that shit is more more important than anything if you want to be an actual good programmer.

Not many jobs require a degree before senior level, and almost none of those are in tech. What are you even babbling about? You employer will pay for one when needed anyway.

can you give some more details about how you got your jerb?

that's a troll post and full of shit, silly

i'm so glad i never wanted to be a programmer. coding is boring and the only worthwhile thing is the reward of getting your code working.

Mate of mine works at hack reactor in San Francisco. It's legit not a meme, it costs a lot but they're getting great results.

Let's see, $10k for 3
Months of work and guaranteed job
Placement, or $50k and 4 years of work and guaranteed no job placement. Dew the math.

Some bootcamps might be good for getting industry connections, but you don't really need to go to a bootcamp to learn webdev. Also depends on the country
>>
Bootcamps are a meme. Startups are also a meme for recruiting those idiots.

>>54631982
Did you just randomly apply for jobs online or did you know someone that let you in?

The majority of programmers are self taught.

As for bootcamps they are fine for the simple things they aim to do which is mostly teach enough web dev and design skills to get you an interview.

You could easily learn just as much by yourself in less time however something you wont get doing it alone is the networking benefits. Meeting people, having the bootcamp set up meetings with companies, etc. that is what you are really paying for, the foot in the door with the companies the bootcamp has referrals with.

I dont know of any bootcamps for "real" programming though.
>>
self taught programmer here, if I could go back in time and stop myself from becoming a programmer I would, you'll only be dissapointed after spending years to master it only to be replaed by pajeet

>Can you really become a Developer with no degree and just self-taught skills?

Absolutely!

You just need some other way of showing that you've spent years learning and practicing programming.
