Is this placebo?

I mean if your phone dac is shit it'll still be shit but is it really better than the native android audio stack or processing? It's like installing new audio drivers or changing music players on Windows thinking it'll make a difference.

It's more likely to make your audio noticeably worse than at all better

Yes, it can make a difference if your stock getup is very low power. V4A gives you several drivers to choose from (I choose high, can't tell the difference between it an highest). It serves as an amp, and has EQ settings out the ass + profiles.

Viper is pure placebo for Pajeets. In fact it is worse than placebo as it will noticeably harm audio quality.

It allows you to tune the audio to your liking.
It can't fix shitty hardware or source though.

i don't know but it's definitely a massive battery drain

This. I had to have it because bluetooth streaming was shit on my S3. Made quite the difference. And then the dev added an auto-update/telemetry feature I was uncomfortable with. So, I fucked off.

I had it on the Galaxy s3 and s4. With Samsungs TouchWiz, it's basically worthless, because Samsung is already utilizing the power of the dac pretty well. However if you switch to a custom rom like cyanogenmod and notice a much worse sound quality (like I did with said phones), v4a can DEFINITELY improve sound. Without it, even at low volumes the audio started to crackle especially with bass heavy music. With it, I had distortion free (or at least a LOT less distorted) audio. My half deaf granny would have heard the difference.
It's not just an eq, it actually uses the inbuilt amp more effectively (don't ask me how)
For stock OSes, it's probably not as useful (even though it has some interesting features and effects)
I say try it, installation is fairly easy if your phone is supported
