Is this a good book?

Yes I used the first edition to learn programming. Its not easy though.

I don't want easy, I want well written, well constructed instruction that teaches fundamentals and good practices. If I wanted easy, I'd use python.

Its a good book for you then. A lot of what I've learned from it helped me when I moved on to other things. It has some cool stuff like data structures and parsing that other beginner books dont have.
Yeah I'd say it's pretty good. It was the textbook I used for my 1st year Intro to Compsci class.
I've occasionally gone back over it and looked at it for reference. If you are just starting out in C++ especially then it would be a good read for you.

I did a little C++ back in high school, but barely remember any of it. I've dabbled in programming here and there afterwards, but everything I've done since has been a pretty high level language. I wanted to cut my chops on some low(er) level languages and thought C++ was a pretty good (read: standard) place to start.

What the fuck does that cover have to do with anything?
>>54608650
Have you ever seen a computer science textbook? They never have anything to do with anything.

Point.
Somehow that cover is strangely perfect, though.
