So /g/, noob here.
Which one of those is better and safer to store files? I want to use it to just store files, don't plan to overwrite them (just to copy files FROM the device to pc or phone, etc, not to keep changing them there).
Or are dvds better?

Magnetic tape drives. Great for archives, also great for those irreplaceable summer vacation photos with the senpai :^)

SD cards, cheap but more reliable than flash drives. I'd still recommend backing up your files to an offsite place though.

have you honestly ever had a flash drive fail? i have at least 20, some being from the early 2000s, and i've never had one fail.

I had one fail on me during that time period too. Files went corrupt, could only recover a small portion of them. Never since though.

I hiked the AP trail in 2009.
I couldn't carry a laptop, for obvious reasons, but I had a persistent linux USB I'd use whenever I could find a computer in town to save photos, check email, etc.
I was in this public library in a small town, and they had a bunch of computers with time limits. I booted with my USB and was browsing the internet, and I guess they wised up because I had been on for like an hour without having to log off and get a new passcode because of their timed shared use crap.
Anyway, they called the cops apparently, and I was detained for like 2 hours while they tried to figure out how to charge me with something. They accused me of being a hacker and kept asking me what I was doing, unsatisfied with me telling them I was just checking my email.
They eventually let me go, but confiscated the drive, and my pocket knife. Drive was encrypted, though, not that there was anything worth their time on it.

I had one turn read-only pretty early after it had reached its write limit I guess. It was a cheap "Dane" brand I got from Target on sale.
I have two more of them, but they haven't died on me yet. Neither have the rest of the 10 or so other ones from different brands I have.

My case for SD cards:
- small, floppy like form factor
- can be nicely labeled
- can be used for cameras, sbc's, cell phones alike
- can be upgraded to thumb drive when applying adapter
- survives washing machine, unlike some flash drives
Just buy a bunch of SD cards OP, don't cheap out.
If you're really shitting money, buy CF cards.
